Marketed as Get Out Meets Friday the 13th this story follows Taylor a teen girl who gets herself into a bit of legal trouble and ends up at a Work Release Program at a summer camp. Camp Lanier is built around a man-made lake that has a history of death. From the moment she peeps the website to her first steps on the grounds our girl is haunted.
This story combines history, urban legend, micro-aggressions, time travel, blood, gore, ghosts, mental health, racism, and well-placed dark humor. I can confidently say that Jordan Peele needs to put this on his radar.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this story. As a parent I wanted to pop the MC upside the head for some of her choices and naiveness. As a horror fan and reader, I was rooting for Taylor to survive and thrive. Highly recommend.

Five Stars for me means that the book pulled a strong emotional response and/or will live rent free in my head for months possibly years to come.
I listened to this story while on a drive. For the most part the MC was living a rather dull life and saw her new friendship with grad student Amal as her one special and cherished thing she has going for her.
The ending of this was abrupt, shocking, sad, and filled me with rage.

This was quick and entertaining but not unique. It read like a Lifetime movie. Don't get me wrong I love a good Lifetime movie. Especially on a rainy afternoon. However, I just finished this on my drive home 30 minutes ago and I already forgot all but one character's name. I adore Lucinda and appreciated the listen while driving.

This story will keep you up at night, consistently checking on our child regardless of age. Be in a chubby toddler or a teen that thinks they are too old for cuddles. You won't be able to stop yourself from checking their chest for breath and sending up a small prayer of safety.
Jason said this story helped him get back into writing and is based on his life experiences. After reading this I plan on giving him the BIGGEST BESTEST HUG next time I see him because WTF.
A father who is also a trained medic is faced with the difficult choice of needing to assess the situation from a professional standpoint and only being able to save one of his children after a car accident. If you survive that, the story continues as survivor's guilt takes hold of his only living child and once again as a father he's faced with another difficult choice.
This may only be 34 pages, but I guarantee you it's a story that will live rent free in your head for the rest of your life. I will point out that while the basis is serious and there are other WTF moments, Jason still manages to incorporate a bit of dark humor which was very much needed. Any smile during this read was a lifeline.

OMG this one is hard. I loved it, it was a wild ride. It was everything I didn't know I needed, and I will absolutely be reading the follow up books because I refuse to leave these characters.
A bitch needed a flow chart to keep track of who I hated, forgave, and then hated again.
Despite EVERYONE getting an HEA this was Messy AF. I wanted to love the MC. He's not a bad man. I GREATLY enjoyed his skills in the bedroom and every spice scene in this book. A bitch lost al moral values when he ate that puss.
But his lack of accountability pissed me tf off. When he gaslight his wife (yes, she's a crazy bitch but that doesn't excuse his words and actions) I wanted to scream.
Both women were a bit too emotional for me. But both were EMOTIONAL GANGSTERS. Layton more than Ciena.
Farrah... I have met women like Farrah, I have had friends with Farrah. Miserable Possessive bitches who want you to be unhappy with them. Last month I read the book Cherish Farrah by Bethany C Marrow. Highly Recommend. Farrah was a sociopath and I felt like the young Farrah in THAT book had a lot in common with the Farrah in this book. Chapter 35 dropped a bombshell and I was like OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I see why she's a terrible, horrible, no-good person.
I felt like myself and other women who have engaged in toxic behavior will be able to relate to Layton. She struggles with a declining mental health and self-hatred which causes her to lash out on the one person she knows won't leave her. Knowing that doing this will only push them away but she literally can't stop herself. As someone who has been there, I can attest it's an outer body experience and requires therapy and self-love.
Highly recommend this book, especially the audio because that Haitian accent was EVERYTHING.

This started off slow for me. But once the MC started being stalked by his own characters it had my full attention.
Misha refuses to bury his two queer leads on a show that he is the lead writer on. Ironically despite being known as a top Queer Horror writer, Misha is still closeted back home and has yet to ever speak on his own sexuality publicly.
Misha's willingness to stand up for the Queer community while still refusing to admit he was part of it was super annoying. With that said I liked him. He was sensitive, funny, dramatic, and protective of his friends.
The TMZ like coverage of his public stalking and speculation that Misha was the problem rang very true to what we have seen play out in real life. Despite being an Oscar nominee, he is still facing the treat of being blackballed by not complying. Again, we've seen this in real life. Hollywood is dangerous and fickle.
Gruesome murders, ghosts, monsters, aliens, Skynet level AI, and worms kept Misha on the run and forced to defend himself by any means necessary.
This was incredibly entertaining, highlighted real life issues, and gave us ACE REPRESENTATION something we don't see often as pointed out in this story :)
