Oh how love can make us weak. I felt like Bell's entire personality changed in this second book. In Deceptive Innocence she was so bad ass with a touch of insecurity. But in this book she was VERY insecure and showed weakness. I felt like she was defeated and tired of the fight.
I read the first book in three parts. Which in my opinion was more exciting because of the cliff hangers. I wish they had sold the second book with that option. I don't know if there just weren't as many cliff hangers or if I was reading too quickly to catch them but it just was not as exciting.
I thought that Bell and Lander would have a Bonnie and Clyde essence about them. But she pretty much let him take the lead and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Despite backing away from her original scheme she still managed to be manipulative and create havoc. I was very proud of her for letting go of all the hate and pain she had been harboring and focusing on living.
I liked the ending and was shocked by the unexpected character who made justice possible. My only complaint is I thought this was suppose to be a trilogy. I don't know where I read it. Maybe I misread but when we were handed the ending all wrapped up in a bow I was left feeling a little hallow.
I'm sorry I've seen enough mob movies to believe that the threat just disappeared. I feel like there should be a third book to address Micah's involvement. I am now questioning if her mom really committed suicide of if that was a prison hit. I don't' know if I have an over active imagination or Kyra left room for speculation on purpose.
Either way I did enjoy this book immensely. Bell and Lander are still one of the hottest couples of the year. And in comparison to 50 Shades since everyone seems to ask me how does it compare I leave you with this.
Christian Grey is a BOY that plays with Toys... Lander Gable is a MAN who uses his HANDS....

Laughter, tears, and warm fuzzies for all. I have been excited about this series from the moment Dakota announced it on Facebook. How does one drop the bomb that they work for a phone sex company? Especially to their uber conservative boyfriend! In less than 100 pages this story takes you on a journey of guilt, facing your fears, loss, lust, and happiness. Cat Butler is a witty and strong character that reminded me of Nina from the a accidental series. Flynn is a son desperately looking to connect and health his ailing mom. And Landon is an angel looking spreading wisdom and love.
Dixie Davis is a reformed bad girl. Reformed meaning she's trying her best not to use her ability to strip someone's self confidence bare leaving them a shell of a person while she baths in their tears and offers their heart to the Gods of Victory. But whatever. Point when Dixie is forced to return to her home town and face her past victims. 40 year old women who still carry the scares of from high school bulling and pranks that left them feeling isolated and alone. Victims who are out for her blood and determined to create road blocks in Dixie's road to redemption.
Caine Donovan is a man with high standards and a chip on his shoulder. He's also Dixie's ex fiance who like many others was a casualty of Dixie's past. Caine is hurting from the loss of their best friend Landon (man with a heart of gold) and overwhelmed with the conflicting feelings he has when he sees the woman he both love and hates.

When Dakota Cassidy announced she was writing this book I assumed it would be funny and light hearted. Two ex lovers pitted against each other in a contest to win a multi-million dollar phone sex company. I thought it would be pages up pages of phone sex dialogue. Instead she presented an emotional journey of self acceptance, forgiveness, finding personal strength, facing adversity, and grief. She gave me love, laughter, and tears. By the end of this book I wanted to call my best friend just to tell her I loved her... and then I wanted to screw the hell out of my husband! lol
Point is I have never read a book by her that I didn't love.

When Emmaline is mentioned in the first book at no point did I think she was going to be a key character in this series. I thought she'd just be another secondary character like the help no one pays much attention to. In the second book we met Em and learned she was a conservative, bible quoting, true southern woman who was going through a scandalous divorce and taking all the blame for her ex's wrong doings and choices. Because she didn't want HIS family name tainted or her son's to think ill of their father. She was also petty and spineless taking small jabs kicking poor Dixie while she was down but lacking the balls to stand up to those who out right challenged her.
So yeah I was not a fan of Miss. Em So I definitely was not expecting to fall in love with her. I sure has hell did not expect her to be a freak in the sheets.
Her book by far has been the HOTTEST of the series. I had thought since she had two boys and her hero had a daughter it would be a family romance. Instead it was a not strings attached sexothon!!! And I loved every minute of it.
Jax Hawthorne is a completely different breed. He's BIG, Dark, and tells it like it is. He comes from a family suffering from loss, dark pasts, and sexy men. I was instantly curious about Jax's past and his relationship with the mother of his child. He is the worlds must amazing dad. In an overprotective probably not healthy kind of way. And it didn't take long for me to want to be a meat in a Hawthorne sandwich.
This is a fun quick read. Very hot and tugs at your heart strings.

I'm sad to say that I skimmed almost two entire chapters on this book. The story between Elin and Thane was good. There was passion, betrayal, clarity, and warm fuzzies. But the storyline of the Elite Seven fighting the good fight was lame. I'm tired of Gena making using the frailest most skittish females to destroy powers stronger than three levels of heaven and an army of immortal soilders. But whatever.
I loved the friendships formed and strengthened in this book. As always she gave us confident, loving, protective, funny, sarcastic women and strong, anguished filled men, who are carved by the hand of beauty and lust and dipped in chocolate.
Not my favorite book but still a good read.

When a book is turned into a movie there are a few things that are almost always true. The book is better, a new group of individuals who may have never considered reading the book are now able to enjoy the story and join it's ever expanding fan base, and the lists of critics will be never ending.
I'm not big on reading YA. So I fit in the middle category. I have not yet seen this movie but without it I can honestly say I never would have read this book. Which would have been a great loss because the great love story of Hazel and Augustus is one that should be known. They are my teenage Wesley and Buttercup. A greater and truer story of love loss than Romeo and Juliet.
Fate would have it that a few weeks ago I stumbled upon and devoured The Red Band Society. Watching it gave me some insight on Gus's type of cancer and in my mind I kept picturing Charlie Rowe aka Leo as Gus. Nothing against Ansel I've just haven't seen him in action yet. However I do adore Shailene Woodly so picturing her as Hazel was easy.
My mom and minister are both cancer survivors. Both were diagnosed as adults and did the chemo/surgery thing and have moved on. But my childhood friend was diagnosed in her early twenties and died less then a year later. Seeing what she went through and reading this story of of these three friends (can't forget about Issac) is one of the most raw and true views of what this disease does to a person and their relationship with others.
I did not sob outright but I did cry multiple times during this book. I got goosebumps and my heart fluttered. I can't wait to see this movie. Hopefully I can get my self absorbed 13 year old to sit with me so she can understand it's not just a love story it's a story of life, death, and creating your own infinity.
I liked that they kept it real and admitted that not everyone is brave until the end. I imagine most people go through an asshole stage, an angry stage, and feelings of loss. I don't think there are enough words to express how much this book touched me. I don't want to focus on the characters like many others do because there is a movie trailer that can package this love story in 3 minutes.
But I will say that this is a story that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

There is no greater love story than those that come from opposing sides. Dark vs Light. Reyes is out of prison and adjusting to being bound to his human body. He is still mouth watering sexy and equally bossy. Charlie is fighting to get herself off the couch. She's still raw from the events she endured in book three. Despite being surrounded by loved ones she feels alone and skittish. Unfortunately her time for self loathing is cut short when a case shows up at her door step.
This was an enjoyable read for me. Lots of laughter and sensual moments. I that Charlie is sarcastic and strong without having to be an alpha. She knows she's not invincible but she puts herself out there anyways. Looking forward to catching up on this series.

EEEEK I can not contain my fan girl urge to jump up and down and say OH MY GOD 100x
I love Charlie's humor and Reyes's everything. I love Cookie's heart and Uncle Bob's no nonsense protective personality. Why did I wait so long to read this book!?! And the ending! The ending was like Wow.. Just uber butterflies in my tummy yay!
I dont' like recaping this is the 5th book you should know what's going on. Charlie sees dead people. She is in love with Satan's son. He's dark and dangerous. She solves crimes. There are moments and characters that tug at your heartstrings. You will laugh, you will get really quiet and try to smooth down the goosebumps creeping up on you, and you will revert to a 13 year old girl with a crush.

A friend told me that I would HATE the ending of this book. Um.... NO far from HATE! This book had so many feels. We learn more about Angel and his relationship with his mom. We get our teen crush fix with more Charley/Reyes flirting. The introduction of a new character who I believe may be related to Crowley from Supernatural... I seriously feel like this entire series is a huge set up for Sam and Dean to come in and kick ass to close it out. There was lots of laughter and moments that again left me feeling sad and protective of my children. We are reminded about the sick selfish asshats in the world. I won't say this is my favorite book in the series, but it held my interest and is rated exceptional.
