12 new mysterious, one lady detective, and a whole lot of fun. 12 authors come together to each write a new short story featuring the iconic character from Agatha Christie’s work, Jane Marple. Each mystery was a fun one to read about and featured the fun classical tone of the lady detective from Christie’s original work as well as having a new touch to them. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, it felt like watching mini episodes and it was a fun time!

A girl finds herself in a bargain with a fae king when her sister is kidnapped and the only way to save her is to step into the land of Fae. Lia Ashmore has been living with guilt ever since she nearly got her sister killed in an accident. The only solace she has is her dreams in which she meets a shadowed man named Riven who helps her escape the pain of her reality. When Lia discovers her sister is missing she encounters Riven, a real faery, a king in fact, and her “dream” man is actually real. Riven tells her that her sister has been kidnapped by the Unseelie and the only way to get her back is with his help, and if she wants his help they’ll have to enter into a bargain, her hand as his consort and his help and protection for her and her sister. What Lia begins to realize is that there is more going on here than she initially thought and that fae court politics are in play. Riven wants Lia but he also wants to protect his people and only Lia as his consort can help him gain back the powers he’s been losing. But bitter rivalries appear that threaten to reveal the deep dark secrets and betrayals that Riven has been hiding and there’s no telling if Lia will be able to forgive him for all his secrets. Unfortunately for me, despite absolutely adoring Megan’s previous work ( The Tinkerbell Retellign), this one definitely missed the mark for me. I was simultaneously annoyed and just so over Lia, she is so naive and constantly going back and forth with her “I feel so guilty about my missing sister” and “ I am in love with Riven” and her choices and decisions? Seriously I had to keep putting this book down to take a break because i was getting irritated. Riven was possessive and toxic and what he did, well, lets just say that her forgiving him practically after she discovers was a bit... questionable. Also the sort of love triangle put in there? nope. So all in all, this one missed the mark for me but I still will definitely be reading Megan’s future work and can’t wait to see what she writes next.
THIS IS THE GREAT GATSBY BOOK YOU NEED! If you’ve ever read the book and thought to yourself : yup Nick and Gatsby are in love, then THIS IS THE BOOK. This is a fresh and absolutely wonderful queer retelling of the Great Gatsby with the BEST AND MOST SATISFYING ENDING FOR EVERYONE. Seriously this was all I could have ever asked for and more, we get the Nick and Gatsby ship of our dreams, we actually get a more fleshed out Daisy and OH BOY DID THIS DAISY ARC WORK OUT SO MUCH BETTER, and my god, the representation in this book was everything to me. I will be forever telling people to read this book because, it just was perfection.

A sweet and lovely take on the classic Hades and Persephone story! I loved the art style so much and honestly could do with more of the story ( gimme a book two haha). The story captures the major points of the classic while adding some new flare of its own. The art is beautiful and the overall story is lovely! If you love the classic mythology and are looking for a new take on it, then definitely check this one out!
Two sisters, a Goblin king, and a game at play. This is a brilliant and fantastic new retelling of the Goblin Market mixed with elements of Labyrinth. The story follows Phoenix “Nix” Loring, an artist whose twin sister died on Halloween and whose’s parents also died on Halloween.... grieving the loss of her sister Nix has lost her ability to see color. All Nix has is her twin’s boyfriend Clarey, whom Nix herself has fallen in love with but hidden her feelings for him. Nix now lives with her Uncle who runs a magical bakery... and soon she discovers that the food he’s been selling and the person who he has been working with to supply the ingredients... is an actual fairy. Nix’s only comfort is the artwork and stories she’s been working on, about goblins and faeries and a world of magical creatures, but lately she’s been without a muse and has stopped drawing. When her uncle goes missing on Halloween Day, Nix knows something is wrong and that her family curse is happening again. With the help of Clarey, Nix steps into the goblin world and discovers that all her drawings have come to life and the only way to get her uncle back is to win the game against the Goblin King... yet more secrets will be revealed and her own twisted family history will come out. Nix will find herself not only questioning who she is but what this world is, what she is willing to sacrifice and how far she will go to save those she loves while healing from the guilt of her sister’s death... yet everything is a twisted game here and soon Nix will have to make the ultimate sacrifice. This is a story filled with romance, survival, grief, friendship, family, betrayal. and magic. I absolutely adored it and I can’t wait to see where the next book goes, especially with that cliffhanger of an ending!!!

Faustian bargains, violinists, and queer alien courtship over fresh-made donuts? What more could you ask for. This is a story about strength, love, family, and acceptance. The story follows Shizuka Satomi, a talented violinist who made a deal with the devil: deliver seven souls of other violin prodigies to trade their souls for success and in turn she will have her own music and success back... she’s already delivered six and she is searching for the final last one. Cue, Katrina Nguyen, a young transgender runaway who loves the violin but has had no training or teacher, and is currently getting out of a difficult family situation. Katrina just wants to survive, to be accepted for themself, and to be able to live as their chosen identity. The only thing that Katrina has that she values above everything else is her beloved violin so when she plays at the park she catches the eye of Satomi... and in that instant Satomi knows she’s finally found her last soul... except the more time Satomi spends training and caring for Katrina the more she comes to love her and the more difficult her decision of sacrificing Katrina becomes. Then there is also the donut shop that Satomi frequents, run by a beautiful donut lady named Lan Tran, a retired starship captain, intersteller refugee, and mother of four. Lan herself is on the run, slowly spending time rebuilding her spaceship, did I forget to mention, she’s an alien? Lan and Satomi instantly hit it off and soon find themselves going out on cute coffee dates and park dates, but both of them have their own struggles to deal with and people they are both responsible for. Three lives of three women become entangled, each of them searching for a way to survive, and a family of their own and acceptance for who they are. This was an absolutely fabulous and heart warming story. I was instantly hooked and I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. The struggles of these characters are relatable and their strength and love for those they care about was so endearing. If you love stories with deals with demons, music, romance, and wonderful representation then this one is for you!
Children of gods must face off in a challenge in order to decide who will be the next Sunbearer and who will be used as a sacrifice With each new decade the Sun’s power must be replenished so that Sol, the god can keep traveling along the sky and keep the chaotic Obsidion gods at bay. There are various gods that rule the earth, each responsible and gifted with different powers, and in order to help power Sol and keep balance in the world, Sol selects ten of the most worthy semidioses to compete in the Sun bearer Trials. The winner will be responsible for carrying light and life to all the temples but the loser will be used as a sacrifice to Sol and their body will be melted down to refuel the Sun Stones, protecting the world for another ten years. Teo is a seventeen year old Jade Semidios and the trans son of the goddess of birds. Children in the Jade faction are considered the weakest and thus they are never chosen for the trials, Teo thinks he is safe from it... yet to his surprise he endsup being chosen as the first jade in over a century to be part of the competition along with another jade, Xio the thirteen year old child of the god of bad luck. The competition is filled with rivalry, friendship, and betrayal. Teo has to also face off against his handsome ex-best friend turned famous hero and their complicated relationship. This was like very much like a combination of Hunger Games and Percy Jackson. I did really appreciate the representation in this novel and the series is set to be a duology.
