1.5 stars, really. This was like bad fanfiction, without the requisite prior love of the characters when starting the story. The instalove was not adequately portrayed as a mate bond; that sort of mystical connection is easier to swallow (no pun intended) when done well. Josh and Tuck were incredibly reckless for two highly trained soldiers. The lingo and culture of the US Army was poorly researched. Is it too much to expect realism in my gay military werewolf erotica?
Miro sure does love his fuckin' boots, huh? As my second Calmes novel, I now see what Rosa, really means when she says There’s “detailed oriented” and then there's “Mary Calmes-oriented.” I bet there's dozens of private pinterest boards dedicated to her characters - which is great, I do the same thing. The trick is when to know it's appropriate to weave that into the prose. I didn't see a whole lot of restraint in this title!
Still, the ride otherwise was very entertaining, because I love Miro so much. Even with the sketchiness of his ability to own an 800k Greystone in Chicago on a Marshal's salary. All that research on John Varvatos, yet no plausible ideas about how he was able to afford it? Tsk.

I've found my favorite Thomas Hardy quote thanks to this fun book of literary quizzes: "Never man nutted like Dick nutted that afternoon."
What I enjoyed most, in the end, is that although Gemma-Kate is proved not guilty of poisoning anyone (including The Pug), she's still not innocent. Brigid sees that she will somehow have to play moral compass for her niece, which will be a struggle for them both when Brigid obeys the spirit of the law on the best of days. You rarely see someone in fiction with malfunctioning empathy as a good, or even neutral force.
Poor, poor Kakashi. Poor everyone on Team Minato, really.
