Every time I read about the Satanic panic hysteria, I think, "Surely, people weren't that stupid, right?" 

And then I look around me and realize, yeah, okay. It definitely happened in exactly that way.

Audiobook note: I desperately need the narrator to look up how to pronounce the word "angst", because it's repeated way too often for me to hear her say it that way.

Extremely low on actual plot, but still entertaining. 

Made me laugh, made me cry. It's so fucking wholesome - two dads falling in love. Truly one of my weaknesses.

I was really hoping for more about the project and less memoir, but it was decently entertaining nonetheless. 

It feels a little like we went from 0-100 on the supernatural elements, but that's mostly because Sam brushed off so many odd happenings with real life explanations. That was always going to be necessary when they established her as a practical scientist, so I don'tnecessarily think it'sa narrative flaw - she really did need to see to believe. I actually wish we had more time with the horror elements, but the character work was extremely relateable.

I love when authors narrate their own non-fiction. I knew I would love this as much as I enjoyed her memoir about working in a crematorium and I was right.

Absolutely destroyed me. 

There's a lot being said about societal expectations, gender roles and identity in between the incest, CSA and

cannibalism

. Starting this book blindly was the best option.

It's fine, I'm not crying, it's fine.

I would read anything Mary writes - she's funny as hell.
