I believe this was my first exposure to the ever popular Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope. I wasn't a very impressed thirteen year old.

You can pretty much never go wrong with potty humor for the children-to-middle grade age group.

My rating is based on reading this book when I was fourteen. I was so appalled at Hester's treatment that I could not fathom giving The Scarlet Letter any credit based on plot, writing or tone.

I should probably read it again. I'll still be appalled, but maybe I will notice other things the second time around.

You don't even need the stories to be scared. The illustrations in this series will give you nightmares.

I can appreciate this story for what it is, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to slap both Misha and Janina. My knowledge of what was going to happen made it frustrating to read how little they took seriously. Clearly I expect too much from children.
