I mostly enjoyed this but there was a little too much "I can't marry him, it will ruin his reputation!!!!" throughout the entire book and then it just took one thing for her to all of a sudden realize she was being dumb. It was a little irritating. The rest of the book was good, and I appreciated the setting and the historical significance of a Black woman being a doctor in a world that had everything going against her. Just this one part of her character was a little annoying. It was like she was too determined to be independent and, like Apollo said, to be unhappy. I think it could have been done with a little less of the hitting the reader over the head with it, honestly, because it became repetitive by the time she realized she was being ridiculous.
