This book was... fucking insane and it was amazing. Not only is the main character not annoying, but the plot was fantastic.
I was very interested from the start of the story to the end. More than a few times, my mouth fell open and I was like, "oh my gawwwd." There were so many twists and turns I felt like I was on a famn roller coaster.
I couldn't trust anyone. I didn't know who to trust, everyone was suspicious as hell. I was right about one thing, though - that bitch is a fucking psychopath.
And the ending! I can't believe it. Why is there no book 2? You can't just end your book like that and not offer a book 2! I'm going to be thinking about this for the next two months ðŸ˜

When I started this book, I expected a hilarious, slap stick adventure of a crow experiencing the apocalypse. As usual, I was wrong.
Well, not completely. While it IS a funny adventure of a crow experiencing the apocalypse, it's so much deeper than just that. It's got feeling, it's got heart. It's not just a parody on the genre, it's a complete reimagining of it. I've seen so many zombie apocalypse movies and TV shows. Not once have I ever stopped to consider the animals.
I feel bad saying that as an animal lover. I suppose I block out those thoughts because I'm sensitive to animals being hurt or being in danger. I don't like thinking about it and I certainly don't like listening to or reading about it.
With that being said, this book does not hold back when it comes to animals being killed and eaten. From house pets to wild animals, none are safe. This is the apocalypse and it would unrealistic if none of them got hurt or died. Just keep that in mind if you're thinking about this series.
I like the idea of different species working together to defend their territory and, though there are a lot of sad, dark moments, ST keeps us going forward with his insane commentary. Seriously, what was wrong with his owner? What is some of the shit he taught this damn bird? 🤣
And the ending? Oh lawd, I did not expect that but it's the perfect cliffhanger because now I need to know what happens next. This was a great adventure and now I love crows even more.

A solid middle grade book that remained interesting throughout the listen. The characters weren't annoying, the plot was good and I enjoyed the ending.

I really enjoyed this one. There were some pretty good, funny lines. I feel bad for laughing when they are suffering but I can't help it. The author is just too good.

The main character experienced something terrible, so it makes sense that he would be blood thirsty, murder hungry and all around an asshole to everyone he meets. I get that.
What I refuse to understand, however, is sexual encounters WITH A 14 YEAR OLD CHILD. I do not care if that was "normal" back then. I don't want to be listening to a book only to have the image of a 14 year old boy having sex in my damn head. That's disgusting and I believe the author only added it for shock value. I nearly stopped listening to the book right then and there.
Thankfully, it's only one portion of the book, though he does say some nasty things that you would never want a 14 year old boy to say. I get that he's fucked up and it's shocking to see such a murderous child. He saw some shit and it warped him.
But don't be that shitty author that goes and adds sexual encounters with a child for shock value. And it didn't mention it, but I can guarantee you the woman he slept with was an ADULT and not a child. It's creepy and gross and this author should be ashamed for including such nonsense.
If it was nonfiction or history, it can pass because I'm sure this shit truly did happen back then. But this book is fiction and I don't care how realistic you're trying to make it, that's going too far.
The story itself wasn't great either. None of the characters were likeable and the main character is the only one who wasn't a piece of wood, though he was far in the opposite direction. Just an overall bad experience.
