Boring and confusing. I kept zoning out and then I would be like, "wait, what happened?"
It just couldn't keep me entertained and the jumping back and forth between times was jarring and confusing.

I really enjoyed this book. The way she talks about the cat and the way the cat acts had me laughing and nodding my head more than a few times. I kept finding myself going, "Yup, that's true." The author is clearly a cat owner because she captured the spirit of the cat companion perfectly, unlike many other books in the cozy cat mystery genre.
It was a pretty good plot, good writing, and none of the characters got on my nerves.

This is a really interesting spin on the genre and I'm quite interested by it. I'm especially interested in the characters that work with her - I think they're called the Fins? They are easily my favorite and I really hope the author goes more into detail about them in later books.
I am disappointed by the lack of cat. Yes, the cat is present, but it's only like 5% of the book. Why put the cutie on the cover if he's barely going to appear? :(

So, I need to start by saying I found this series through Nerdforge when they made huge copies of his books (https://youtu.be/13coGQUp3ck?si=-y6g_4qVDBuvL8u_). They looked amazing and seeing how much she adored the books, I knew I had to check them out for myself.
I was scared, of course. What if I hated it? What if the characters annoyed me? It's a 45 HOUR LONG listen and that's a long time to suffer if I hated it but I would most likely suffer it because I don't like leaving books unfinished. I also hate myself so it's a bit of punishment.
I can honestly say... I was worried for nothing. This book was AMAZING and I like all of the characters! (Kaladin, Adolin, Szeth and Renarin are all now my husbands and I adore the fanart people have made for them)
This story is SO GOOD! Like, there's a lot I don't understand but that might be better explained in the later books (8 week wait to rent book 2? sheesh) I haven't been this hyped about a book series in a LONG time. It feels like I'm watching the LOTR movies again or experiencing Harry Potter for the first time. This author is my hero.
The writing is amazing. The dialogue is realistic. There's drama and comedy and family. I'm HOPING there won't be love down the line because the books are perfect without them, but no one seems to be able to write great fantasy or adventure books without it.
I'm so excited to learn more about this world, about its magic and history, about these awesome characters. I can't even read fanfiction because I don't want to spoil it (something I never care about because spoilers don't really bother me.) As a writer, you'd think I'd better be able to put into words how cool this series is lmao and I've only listened to book one!
