It didn’t quite make it to five because it was REALLY ridiculous and hard to suspend my belief at times. I also felt like there were just a little too many interruptions by the narrators.

Nevertheless I finished 2/3 in one sitting and stayed up 2 hours past my bedtime (which is 3 am at the moment anyway :D) so that must mean that I was sucked into this book. I just love the writing style (except the a bit too many interruptions) so much.

The showdown at the end with the carriage felt quite annoying to me though.

It’s a fun quick read just not my favourite trope and as expected pretty predictable. But of course still enjoyable, I’ve read most of Kasie West’s books and I always know what to expect and it delivers :)

Money is just not my favourite topic but it was a solid cute romance.

I liked this book well enough I just wanted a little more from it. I wanted a lot more romance and maybe more explicit scenes since this is an adult novel. And the main characters were miscommunicating almost the entire length of the novel which is a pet peeve of mine - if characters in their mid twenties don’t know how to talk to each other properly it’s just sad I don’t know. Speaking of which they both did not read like they were mid twenty but like teenagers I was bummed about that.

To me the writing style was very hard to read for some reason making it very slow. I can’t really explain why exactly.

And lastly I felt I was dropped into politics that never truly made sense to me. The first 50 pages I was just confused and a bit annoyed. But I never felt like the political situation was explained well and the hierarchy/ treaty/ resolution business made zero sense to me.

Trigger warning: very explicit abusive relationship references (acted out memories/ flashbacks) and a victim blaming himself

This was such a surprise. I hated the first 100 pages and getting through them was very hard but then I was so invested and loved the story so much. It leaves me flummoxed.

Massive Trigger warnings for:
Miscarriage, Rape, Torture

And just a warning if you’re pregnant like me right now the first 100 pages will be even harder to read.

It’s so weird I hated her fantasy series with a passion but I love her contemporary books so so much! They are complex and not the generic tension through miscommunication plot that makes me want to scream. The characters were so real and authentic and I just loved every second of it. I really hope she‘ll continue writing contemporary novels I will read them all.

Might be my new favourite Kasie West book and since it’s the 11th book I have read by her that’s saying something! Can’t wait for Sunkissed!!!
