Kennedy's writing is gorgeous - so evocative and really paints the grim scene of 1970s Belfast. That being said, I didn't care about Cushla or her relationship with Michael.

I loved the variety of rice dishes from around the world - fried rice recipes, rice n beans recipes, dessert rice recipes, etc. But many of the recipes were long (one had 3 pages of ingredients and four pages of instructions!) and complicated.
