The Accidental Alchemist is one of my favorite series and I was very happy to be able to read an arc of the new installment.
The mix of different genres (cozy mystery, adventure, urban fantasy, YA, a pinch of romance) works very well and it creates a highly entertaining and gripping novel that kept me turning pages.
Zoe, Dorian and the gang are back at their best. We get to know more about Pernelle and Nicolas Flamel and we wonder what's happening to Max.
The plot is full of twists and turns and the last twists were totally unexpected and brought the book to a very satisfying end.
It's a mystery with no murder but two apparent subplots that will be joined at certain point leaving anything lose or unanswered.
The paranormal aspects plays an important role: Zoe is an alchemist of discovered the Elixir of Life and she’s older than 300 years even if she looks a twenty something, Nicolas and Pernell Flamel are the legendary alchemists who are adapting to life in XXI century, Dorian is a Notre Dame gargoyle brought to life but an experiment of a type of forbidden alchemy.
There’s a strong element of paranormal but they all also live a normal life and the author excels at mixing their secret aspects with everyday life.
I loved every moment of this story and can't wait to read another one.
Even if it could be enjoyed as a stand alone I advice to read the previous novels in order to appreciate the details and the characters.
Strongly recommended.

Sometimes you need to remember that magic is something that you can find in everyday life and even in the most menial chores.
There's plenty of food for thought and it was an interesting and informative read.
It mixes the author's personal experiences with hints and sometimes it's more a memoir than a guide.

It's an entertaining and gripping cozy mystery, full of twists and turns.
I liked the descriptions of the small town life, the solid mystery that kept me guessing and the well thought characters.
There's plenty going on in the characters' life and I can't wait to read the next novel to see what will happen.

I loved Eleanor Porter's first novel and loved this one.
it's a poignant, engrossing and well researched historical fiction that describes an era when being a clever and independent woman could mean being accused of witchcraft and sentenced.
Martha is well rounded and interesting characters, she's strong willed and brave. I loved her and loved her relationship with Jacob.
The plot flows and kept me turning pages, the historical background is well researched.

This is a quite dark and complex Christmas murder novel. I think it's a sort of homage to the complex puzzle of Golden Age mysteries and it uses some of the GAD trops delivering an original and gripping novel.
We are used to think as Golden Age mystery as light and cozy forgetting that some of them are quite dark and the families are usually dysfunctional.
The characters are not likeable, I wouldn't be happy to spend time with them. Lily, the MC, is damaged and still grieving the death of her mother.
Other characters are simply nasty but all of them are fleshed out.
I wasn't able to solve the puzzles but I found them fascinating.
The mystery is solid and, even if I guessed some twists, it kept me reading.
There are some repetition and some less repetition of how Lily is feeling would have helped.

A brilliant, poignant, and heartwarming story that made me smile and think.
Lucia and the cast of characters are lovely and this novels is a mix of comedy, mystery and moving moments.

It's gritty, gripping, entertaining and heartbreaking at the same time.
It's a dark story, disturbing at times, with flash of normality and a great detective.
Lottie is a great character: a woman who solves complex mysteries but also tries to go on with her private life and face the challenges like a lot of women.
The plot is full of twists and turns, fast paced and it kept me guessing.
It's the second book i read in this series and I loved it. It can be read as a stand alone.

It was the first Tuva Moodyson book I read and it's brilliant. It's dark, creepy, terrifying at times and somehow it sometimes reminded me of Midsommar.
The claustrophobic and closed community, the folk horror elements and the gripping plot made me love this story that I couldn't put down.
Tuva is a fascinating, complex and interesting characters: she's strong but we are also shown her fragility and doubts.
Will Dean can surely write a page turner and I will surely read other books in this series.

A short novel, disturbing and intoxicating, enthralling and hard to follow at times.
It's not an easy read and it's not entertaining, it's one of those book that makes you think and I will read it again to see if I got the same impression.
It could be the first great novel about the pandemic we are living.
Great style of writing and excellent character development.
Highly recommended.
