I think this is a good debut but I'm not a fan of the book as I found it a bit confusing and slow.
I found the part set in Sri Lanka more interesting the contemporary one.
Not my cup of tea

There's plenty of interesting ideas in this book but it didn't work for me as the second part was a bit too confusing and the story fell flat.
Not my cup of tea.

It's a darkly humorous, wickedly funny satirical story for 75% of the book, the last 25% it's confusing and I didn't liked it.
It's the first book I read by this author so I can't compare it to other works but I liked the style of writing and the humour.
A semi-great novella.

The start of a new cozy series it’s always an exciting moment as you get to know new characters and travel to new places.
This mystery is set in a lovely village in the Cotswold, a lovely place. There’s a strong sense of community.
Nancy and her grandma Jane manage the local bookshop, specialized in selling mystery and thriller books.
A great party brings together the people from the village and the Roth, who own the mansion on the hill.
Something will happen at the party and someone is going to die.
This is the start of an investigation that involves Nancy, her grandma and her friend Jonathan.
As this is the start of new series it’s slow burning as we are introduce to the characters, their backstories and the setting.
We get to know Nancy, the mysterious disappearance of her mother and the tragic death of his father that could be a murder. Nancy is an interesting woman, she’s clever but full of empathy.
I like her I will be happy to read other murder featuring this character.
The mystery is full of twists and red herring, I couldn’t guess the culprit and the familiar secrets made me think of Golden Age mystery.
The character development is excellent and the plot flows and kept me turning pages.
My only issue is that some repetition and a too many details made the read less gripping.
I can’t wait to read the next instalment.
Recommended.

An anthologies of stories with a common thread: they all take place during The Duke of Greystoke’s Christmas Revelry.
Historical romances are always a hit or miss with me and this anthology is surely a hit.
I read other stories by these authors and knew they are excellent storyteller, my expectations were high and I wasn't disappointed.
I loved all the stories as they are well plotted and the characters are interesting.
My favorite is Mistletoe Christmas as it's poignant and romantic at the same time. I couldn't help feeling for Lady Cressida, the woman behind the Revelry. Her destiny has been decided and she's not destined to marry but to keep on organising the parties.
It's an excellent depiction of what could happen to a woman in an age were they when the couldn't inherit and their father ruled their life. She will be able to change her life and find happyness.
The other stories also features women who takes their life in their hands and face changes in order to achieve happiness.
I appreciated the storytelling and how the stories worked in a novella format. The historical background is vivid and well researched.
Highly recommended.

When I received an invitation to read this ARC I immediately read Suzanne Enoch/MacTaggert and couldn't download it soon enough as it's my favorite historical romance series.
Great Scot takes place after the brother married and is the story of Jane, an olde maiden (at the ripe age of 33) who is emplyed as Lady MacTaggert companion. She doesn't expect love in her future but things will not work as she thinks and there's a HEA in store for her.
The humour, the quirky characters and the excellent storytelling made me love this novella and I was glad to catch with the boisterous family. I hope to meet them again.
Christmas at Dewberry Hollow by Amelia Grey is the story of another woman who doesn't think about love but destiny has other plans. I found it enjoyable and well written, a good romance.
I never read Anna Bennet before but I'm happy I read her novella as it was a lot of fun and well told.
An excellent anthology set at Christmas time, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Highly recommended.
