I loved One Moment, an emotionally charged and poignant book, but I'm not a fan of this one. I had high expectations and maybe it was the wrong approach as it's a different type of story.
I will try again but it wasn't my cup of tea.

I never read anything by William McIlvanney before but I love Tartan Noir so the blurb and Ian Rankin make me request this arc.
That said it's a gripping, gritty, atmospheric and dark thriller. I was hooked since the beginning and fell in love with the style of writing and the storytelling.
I have to confess that i'm able to tell who wrote but I can surely say it is well written, well plotted and the characters are vivid.
The descriptions, the atmosphere brought me back in time and it is an exciting read.
Please do not expect a Rebus mystery as this story it's on the darker side of Tartan Noir.
Highly recommended.

3.5* rounded to 4
I didn't read Six of Crows so I can't say if there's a lot in common, I think there's a lot of potential as the world building and the magic systems are fascinating and the morally grey characters are interesting.
It's a grimdark fantasy that can become a very interesting series.
I found it entertaining but I didn't appreciated the cliffhanger as it was like waiting for any type of conclusion and being left with a "To be continued"
I want to read the next book to know what will happen.

This was my first Kia Abdullah and I'm happy to join the chorus of raving reviews as it was a tense and gripping rollercoaster that kept me turning pages.
An excellent book can keep you turning pages even if you are not a huge fan of the characters and this is one of those books.
Great plot, excellent character development and lot of unexpected twists.
Highly recommended.

Silvia Moreno-Garcia reimagine the vampire lore creating new types of vampires making them contemporary and varied.
They are not the sexual object of desire or projection of the perfect man, they are flesh and blood and each type of vampire comes with different characteristics and lore.
I loved this book, it's a urban fantasy but it's also the story of the relationship between two underdogs: Atl, the aristocratic vampire girl on the run, and Domingo, the homeless boy who lives on the border of the society.
The setting is a timeless and alternate Mexico City, dark and fascinating.
There's plenty of references to pop culture and we know that the setting is contemporary but there's no specific reference.
She's a talented storyteller and delivers a gripping and fascinating story, I was enthralled and read it in two setting.
The world building is amazing and rich of details, the characters are fleshed out and fascinating.
I loved this story and it would be great to read other stories featuring Domingo and Atl.
Highly recommended.

I know that you should read a fantasy series since the beginning and I know this is the 4th in a series.
That said I loved it, I enjoyed every line, laughed a lot and found it brilliant.
It's funny but also full of food for thought, I read in two sitting and loved the world building and the characters.
I'm sure I missed details but I loved it as the style of writing is brilliant and I loved the characters.
Jennifer is a great MC and I loved her as much as I loved the Quack Beast and the other characters.
I'm happy because I have an entire fantastic series to read.
I strongly recommended it as I loved it.

I could read Colson Whitehead's shopping list and review as "a fantastic read, master storytelling and character development".
That said I had high expectations for Harlem Shuffle and I wasn't disappointed.
it's a mix of genres but also a reflection on racism, fighting for your right and a love letter to Harlem and New York.
It's a slow burning novel, sometimes you have the impression that nothing is happening but at the same time you know the something will happen.
Carney is a man with a double life but he's also a man trying his best to give a decent life to his wife and children. He's got to face what it meant to be a black man in the 50s/60s but he have also to face the disapproval of his wife family.
Even if it's not tense as the previous books there's plenty of food for thought. It talks about 50s/60s but he also talks about the world we live in.
Colson Whitehead is a master storyteller, his style of writing is apparently plain but his descriptions and characters made me think even when I wasn't reading.
If you are expecting The Nickel Boy pt 2 this isn't the right book, if you want to read a fast paced/action packed story this isn't the book for you.
But if you want to read a well written story that will make you think and enjoy what you're reading this is the right book.
I loved it and it's strongly recommended.

This is a festive novel, an excellent Christmas rom-com but it's also a book that talks books, tropes and looking down on who read a certain type of books.
I was hooked since the first pages and loved what I read.
The author is a good storyteller and the story is fast paced and gripping.
Meghan and the other characters are well developed and relatable. I love the friendship amongst the women and their book club.
I liked other books by this author but I think this is the best I read so far.
Highly recommended.
