This is the first book I read in this series and it can be read as a stand alone even if it's not the first in this series.
It's a well written, entertaining, and tightly knitted mystery that kept me guessing and turning pages.
I loved the well developed characters and the storytelling.
I will surely read the previous books as I want to learn more about the character's stories.
Highly recommended.

M J Porter’s historical mysteries are interesting and compelling, well plotted stories set during WWII.
This is the second I read and I thoroughly enjoyed it as it’s a solid mystery and the historical background is vivid and well researched.
This is an entertaining mystery but it’s also a good way to learn something more about life in UK in 1944.
Mason, O’Rourke and the cast of characters are well developed and likeable. They’re clever and I liked the way they investigated.
I would recommend to read the Custard Corpses before this one even if it can be read as a stand-alone.
I would happy to read other books in this series as I thoroughly enjoyed this one and read it in one afternoon.
Highly recommended.

I love this series and I think this is the best story so far: a complex, well plotted, and gripping mystery that kept me guessing and hooked.
I was surprised till the end and I didn't guess any of the twists. Jago and Craddock are a great investigating team and I'm always glad to catch up with them.
The setting and the descriptions of everyday life are detailed, vivid and well researched. I iike to read the note at the end of the book and discovering new things.
Highly recommended.

There's a lot of potential and I liked the dark academia setting. Unfortunately I didn't care for the characters and the story fell flat.
Not my cup of tea
