I read the first novel some times ago and I loved it. The second one is as good as the first one and loved it as well.
It's very French and very European. You can love or hate but you cannot help laughing or thinking about the past of the Old Geezers.
I strongly recommend it.

This is one of the best Lorac's mystery I read and I read a lot of them. A very complex, twisty, and surprising whodunit with an intriguing puzzle at the center in a case that could be a suicide or a murder.
I love following McDonalds investigating and this one kept me hooked and guessing. There's plenty of mystery and there's a perfect family that maybe is not so perfect.
Ruth Surrays, the dead woman, is at the center of a relationships but she's always a sort of far away idol, a woman who doesn't feel emotion or is so repressed to never feel them.
I was fascinated by the "turmoil of voices around her" paraphrasing Ezra Pound. We don't meet her, we learn about her via friends, colleagues and lovers.
This one of the best mysteries I read this year and I read it in one sitting.
The locked-room/impossible crime is a sort of fashionable marketing trope, this is the real thing, a challenge to solve a very complex puzzle.
Highly recommended.

4.5 upped to 5
Another well written and well plotted mystery featuring the journalist Allie Burns. Ten years later Allie is older, a more experienced journalist and is living in a different world where a lot is going on and things are changing.
The Wall of Berlin is going to fall, the AIDS is killing and is seen as the gay virus.
Val McDermind bring back memories of those years, music included, and mix mystery and historical facts. The mix works and the plot is twisty, dark, and gripping.
I was surprised by the twists, enjoyed the lighter moments, and was happy things changed as the sexism and homophobia were rampant at the end of the 80s
Loved it, can't wait for the next story
Highly recommended.

N. K. Jemisin is one of the biggest name in the speculative fiction field and is one of the best contemporary authors. I love her and this book confirm my opinion and made me love her works more and more.
The World We Make is the follow up of The City We Became and the second part in this duology.
The City We Became was a book that i loved, it was powerful and gripping. This one met all my expectations and I was totally involved in the evolutions and reflection.
I read it slowly not because it's boring but because i felt a sort of emotional overcharge.
Well plotted, well written, gripping, thought provoking and highly entertaining.
One of the best book i read in 2022

I read it again, and I can confirm what I wrote:
Stross can't write a bad or boring book: this one is excellent and gripping.
Great storytelling and world building, excellent character development.
As it's the second in a series it's better read them in order.
Highly recommended.

It was the first book I read by Michelle Vernal and won't surely be the last as I enjoyed it.
It's a festive story, made me travel to a small Irish village and meet some quirky and likeable characters.
A well plotted, cute, and festive story. Can't wait to read another one.

I loved every book in this series, the characters, and the humour.
This is the final book in this series and I loved it as it answers to all questions raised in the previous books and make us meet Gretchen, Kester's mother, and learn about her.
I don't think this book can be appreciated as a stand alone as there's a lot of references to previous books.
Loved it, missed the quirk paranormal adventure and will miss this series.
Highly recommended.

Since I read the first Thomas Covenant book I knew that Stephen Donaldson was not a fast-easy-read author. It' takes time, some time it's a bit long winding, and sometimes you don' like the characters.
But i always remembered the stories, the characters, and the worlds.
This is the last book in the Great God's War series and there's all the pros and cons of Donaldson. You can love or hate it but you will not be indifferent.
I liked it and liked how the series ended.
Recommended.

A sweet and festive romance that made me smile and kept me reading. I enjoyed the atmosphere, rooted for the fleshed out characters, and had fun.
A well plotted story, perfect for this time of the year.

I didn't read the fist book in this series but i enjoyed this one. Well plotted, gripping, and featuring a couple of interesting teen detective.
I appreciated the realistic MC and the solid mystery. It's a good crime thriller.
