I think it's one of those book that you have to re-read to make sense of what you read and appreciate the characters.
I liked the concept and the style of writing but didn't like the book that left confused and wondering about what I read.

I love Tova and Marcellus, loved this story, loved the storytelling.
It's a book that I will read again as I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the originality of the plot.

I've been reading V.I. Warshawski stories for ages and they were always entertaining, gripping, and compelling.
She's a strong characters and Sara Paretsky a master storyteller that keeps me hooked and guessing.
Great plot, solid mystery, well developed and interesting characters.

I fell in love with the gorgeous cover and then I fell in love with Loulie and Qadir, the fascinating Middle East inspired world building, and the gripping plot.
It's a book that kept me reading and I didn't want to end as I was thoroughly enjoying it.
I can't wait to read the next book.

A book that kept me on the edge and hooked till the last page. It's gripping, disturbing at times, entertaining, and well written.

I appreciated the style of writing and appreciated the references to folklore. This is not fast paced and action packed story, this is a story that talks about people who live in Gyrford in an alternate XIX century.
The author did a lot of work in recreating a simil XIX century language and developed a fascinating a complex world building.
I wasn't a fan of John, a bit too juvenile, but I found the plot entertaining and compelling.
I hope there will be other stories set in this world.
