I'm not a fan of Scandinavian noir and I don't usually like Scandinavian fiction but this one was so weird, funny, and riveting that I loved every moment.
I loved Aki Kaurismäki and I think this book is the fiction version of one of his movies.

A slow burning and riveting thriller, a homage to Golden Age mystery that featured the people living in a building as possible suspect.
I appreciated the character development and how it wasn't possible to guess any twists.
Ms Foley is a master storyteller and I loved the character and plot development.
I think that a map would help to visualize the setting.
It was a gripping and highly entertaining read.

Maisie Dobbs mysteries are usually excellent and gripping stories. This one is the best I read so far and I learned something I never knew about the American army in UK.
I was a bit shocked but it was also an excellent way to learn something new, I will surely read more about this topic.
That said the mystery and the plot are excellent, ful of twists and gripping.
Maisie and the cast of characters are fleshed out as usual and the historical background is vivid. The solid mystery kept me guessing.

Even if there's a lot of potential I didn't care for the characters and the story fell flat.
