A fast paced and entertaining historical mystery, the second installment in this excellent series.
It's riveting, entertaining and gripping.
The author did an excellent job in mixing historical characters like Al Capone with fiction and the historical background is vivid and well researched.
Maddie is a character I love: a woman who's fighting to give the best to her child and I love her and the cast of fleshed out characters.
The mystery is solid and full of twists, it kept me guessing and I loved the solution.
Highly recommended.

I discover this is the first in a series and I'm very happy because I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Great characters, a lot of humour, a riveting plot and a fascinating world building.
It's an excellent mix of sci-fi and fantasy and it kept me turning pages.
I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

This is not an easy book but it's a fascinating one, one of those book you have to read one chapter at a time as there's plenty of food for thought.
It made me discover Zora Neale Hurston and I appreciated her works and the introduction.

A creepy, riveting and enigmatic story that kept me reading and left me with a lot of questions.
I felt a bit lost at times and I couldn't stop reading, I loved the enigma behind the characters and the style of writing.
We don't know the name of the woman at center of the story as we don't know a lot of thing but I think the missing information are big part of the charm of this story.
Great storytelling, creepy setting, excellent character development.
Highly recommended.

Another good addition to my favorite Scandinavian mystery series. It's not the best in the series but it's a compelling and entertaining read even if a bit slow at the beginning.
The Sandham islands are always a pleasant place to visit and I was glad to catch up with the characters.
The mystery kept me guessing and I liked the solution.

3,5* rounded up.
The artwork is amazing but I found the plot a bit confusing even if I liked the relationship between Teresa and Laura.

Guards! Guards! is one of my favourite Discworld novel, the one that made me fall in love with the City Watch cycle, laugh and discover how it was possible to mix fantasy with plenty of humour and social remarks.
It's a very funny book but it's also a book full of sharp remarks about politics, society, and religion.
It's a multilayered story: you can read it as an entertaining story featuring dragons and people fighting dragons, as the story of a man who fights to find his place and dignity.
There's not a right or wrong way to read it as long as you read it.
I'm one of those Pratchett fan who never read his last book because they wanted to think there's still a new Pratchett book to read.
Reading again Guards! Guards! made me discover new sides to this beloved story and had a lot of fun.
Brilliant, riveting and highly entertaining.
OOK
