It's a book that I found hard to classify as there's dystopia, sci-fi, fantasy and some elements from historical China.
That said is one of the best YA fantasy I read in some times and one which is thoroughly YA, not a fantasy marketed as YA.
The characters talks and act like young adults, there's a lot of action and the world building is fascinating.
It's gripping and highly entertaining story but it also deals with issues like female oppression.
An excellent debut, highly recommended.

It's the first book I read in this series and I enjoyed it.
Good characters, a fast paced and twisty plot, an interesting MC
The mystery is solid and the well developed plot kept me hooked.
Recommended.

It's the first book I read by this author and won't surely be the last as I found it brilliant.
I think this story is an excellent speculative fiction, a futuristic view of Africa and of the world where human can be enhanced and what it means for their life.
There's plenty of food for thought but it's also a gripping story.
Great storytelling, world building and character development.
Highly recommended.

A fast paced and highly entertaining book, the first in a series.
It's gripping, well developed and the plot kept me hooked. The characters are fleshed out and interesting.
I hope to read another book in this series soon.

What a ride: gripping, twisty, and dark. I had a lot of fun in reading the start of a new series and, even if you can compare it to other famous series, it's totally original and well written.
A complex world building, interesting and fleshed out characters.
I turned pages as fast as I could and thoroughly enjoyed what I read.
Can't wait to read the next installment.
Highly recommended.

I think it's the second book I read in this series and I'm wondering why I didn't read the entire series as this story is excellent.
A solid and twisty mystery, full of red herrings and twists. Relatable and fleshed out characters, a plot that kept me reading.
Highly recommended.

1922 is a very important year in the XX century history and it's somehow similar to the times we're living.
There's plenty to learn form this book, a chapter for each month. Facts from different fields.
It's well researched, well written and compelling.
Highly recommended.

Another excellent addition to this highly entertaining historical cozy series. Each book is better than the previous and this one is the best so far.
Even if it can be read as a stand-alone, I strongly advise to read the entire series in order to better understand the characters and their evolution.
I had a lot of fun and I couldn’t put it down, turning pages and being on the edge because there were plenty of possible culprits and I wanted to know who-did-it and why.
Ellie is as lovely as usual, and her uncommon upbringing makes her a perfect cultural observer of the 20s high class vices and virtues. I like her non-conformism and independence and was glad to learn more about her parents.
Clifford is a perfect mix of Wimsey’s Bunter and Jeeves, a well read and clever man that know how to act as the perfect butler and when to act as a friend and mentor.
The plot is well developed and gripping, there’s a lot of twists and I appreciated the right level of suspense and tension.
I learned something new about Christmas in Scotland and appreciated how the author’s Christmas description reminded me of the Golden Age Christmas stories.
It was a lot of fun; I laughed and was moved by some parts of the story.
I can’t wait to read the next story as I want to know what will happen as the highly satisfying last pages left me craving for more.
Highly recommended.

I wanted to love this book and had high expectations.
There's plenty of potential but somehow it missed the target.
Arlo seems a bit on the depressed side, the love triangle is still present and the humour seemed a bit forced.
I also hope that the next book will solved the "who wrote the book" dilemma and move on.
I think other people will love it but it wasn't my cup of tea.

It was an excellent way to travel to London and discover new places that I will surely add to my list the day I can go back.
Some places are quite well known, other were new to me.
Lovely illustrations and interesting texts.
Highly recommended.
