Thank you to Macmillian, Amanda, and Netgalley for this ebook arc.
5/5 stars. (I was not expecting this based on the cover, so don't judge the book by it's cover, judge it by this review).
Description: Hattie lives on the Northanger Abbey campus, the school she goes to and her mom runs. She's spent her whole life there trying to fit in, keep her family together after the loss of their dad, and stay on the track her mother expects of her. However, when her mother makes Hattie the student ambassador to Kit Moreland, the first student sent to Northanger Abbey by a paranormal society, Hattie is forced to face the ghosts not only on campus, but in her past. She doesn't do this alone though: her two best friends and family are caught in the middle of her transformation, but will everyone be stronger on the other side, or fall to the grief that's been plaguing them for years?
The great aspects:
- I did love all the characters (this is very YA and I know some folks don't like the YA characters that are a bit annoying with their flaws, so if you don't like that, you don't like this book)
- I appreciated how grief was handled in this book.
- I liked the depth in relationships explored: there was romantic relationships explored, family relationships, and friendships all addressed
- The ghost stories thrown in kept me on my toes and added a unique aspect to the book!
- This was an extremely quick read, I read it in a day and could not put it down.
Overall: If you like YA at all, this is probably the book for you.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, David and Guadalupe for this wonderful novel.
4.5/5 stars.
General Description: Love knows no bounds, especially for Calizto and Sitlali. We follow 2 timelines: Calizto is trying to protect himself as Tenochtitlan starts to fall, while Sitlali is escaping gangs in Mexico to join her father in the US. Both Calizto and Sitlali hold a moon conch near and as the moon gets fuller, their connection gets stronger. Will Calizto and Sitlali be able to get to safety in their respective timelines, or will something worse than heartbreak happen?
All the good:
- The historical aspect is magnificent.
- The present day setting is heartbreakingly accurate and left me anxious while reading, in the best way possible.
- The love story is absolutely beautiful and made my heart smile.
- This was extremely fast paced and I saw no twists or turns coming if I'm honest.
The loss of a half star:
- To me, the ending left me with questions which left me unsettled. If there is a sequel to this book, I'll change my rating to a 5/5 stars.
Overall: If you like historical romances, I feel like this will be right up your alley. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

5/5 stars.
Description: Have you ever wondered what it'd be like to travel through space? Well this book may make you change your mind. We follow Asuka, who joined a program called EvenStar to be one of eighty females to travel in space to Planet X. Flipping between past and present. we see Asuka go through the program while trying to fix the problems on the spaceship. Mainly: a bomb exploded, throwing them off course, and Asuka has to find out who did it and hopefully get the ship on track. There's action, mystery, twists, and turns. If you like sci-fi even a little, I really think you'd enjoy this book.
The good (since there is only good):
- The representation is phenomenal, seamless, and as it should be in books.
- The pacing is so fast you won't even realize you're reading, you're so immersed on the ship and school settings.
- The TECHNOLOGY and descriptions are gorgeous.
- The mystery keeps you on your toes the ENTIRE way. I could only guess one of the many twists, which kept me extremely engaged.
- I feel like the ending was satisfying.
Overall: PICK THIS UP!!! I cannot recommend it enough.

General description: Zhara's world has always been a trial where she has no control. Her father was taken from her since he was a magician and her wicked stepmother saved her from the same cruel fate. She accidentally blinded her sister. She's the only one that seems to work to provide for the family. However, Zhara is having a harder time keeping her magic under wraps, especially once abominations (magicians turned into evil creatures). Luckily, she isn't alone. Han (the royal heir) wants to escape his palace life and bumps into Zhara one day. He doesn't reveal his identity, but does work by her side. Those two and a cast of other loveable character have to work together to keep their city safe from the abominations, but little do they know, a greater evil is lurking and only time will tell if they're able to protect themselves.
The good
- I loved the diversity.
- I really enjoyed how much the author put themselves into the book. While this was high fantasy, it felt very personable.
- The action was fantastic.
- The world building was impeccable. I would love to visit this world.
The loss of a star
- While the world building was great, the lore just kept going and going and going. I wanted just a bit to digest the information but more and more kept coming. It got a bit overwhelming at the beginning and even the end, when MORE new lore is introduced.
Overall: If you're looking for a unique new high fantasy, you NEED to pick this up and anxiously wait with me for the next one lol.

General Description: If you have to chose between you two best friends getting married, could you? Doesn't that seem like a completely unfair situation? Well, unfortunately, Domenic finds himself in the middle of between his long time friend Patrick and best friend Kate. They're getting married, Domenic is the best man, and he's going to both the bachelor and bachelorette parties. However, when Domenic doesn't immediately pick between his friends, he's immediately the bad guy. On top of this, Domenic's own wedding plans fell through and now he's navigating his new single life. Will Domenic find love, friendship, and most importantly himself along the way?
The good:
- I really liked the concept.
- I appreciated the complexity of Domenic and his own self discovery journey.
- Honestly I do live for some drama lol.
The loss of a star and a half.
- minus .5 stars for each main side character (Patrick, Kate, and Bucky). I found them all annoying and unfair to Domenic personally. I know there's a redemption attempt in the book, but I would hope Domenic would get better folks in his life.
Overall: I think it's a cute character driven/plot mixed story and I would recommend it, especially with Pride month coming up!

Description: If you witnessed a murder, then was sent back in time to find the root of the problem, would you go back to fix it? Well it literally doesn't matter what you want, you're going back in time if you're Jen. Jen saw her some Todd murder a man in front of their house, but when she wakes up the next day, she's gone back a day in time. Jen tries to work with her husband Kelly to figure out why she's going back in time, but every day she goes back further and further, so he forgets every day. Who can Jen turn to for help? Will she be able to stop her son from becoming a murderer, or will she go back in time without returning to the present?
The good:
- I appreciated the twists and turns of the book.
- I thought the concept was interesting.
- There is suspense that keep you reading, even when it gets slow.
The loss of two stars:
- I felt this was pretty slow overall. We keep moving back in time without moving forward (except for Ryan's input here and there) without any real answer. Nothing really fell into place until the very end and then I did not have time to process the answers.
- The very ending. If there is a sequel to this book, I will increase this to 4 stars, but if there is no sequel, the ending is every open ended which is a pet peeve of mine in standalone books.
Overall: If you like slow-burn thrillers with multiple twists, this is the book for you.

Description: Fern has to go back to her family resort because her mother left it to her. Her mother passed in a sudden, tragic car accident. Before Fern's mother, Maggie, passed, she had hired a consultant to help the business. Will Baxter shows up and Fern's world turns upside down. Will and Fern were meant to meet at the lake 9 years ago and Will never showed. Fern isn't even sure if she wants to stay at the resort, what her dreams are, and how to handle the grief of her mother passing. On top of that, Fern has to reconcile her feeling for Will after all these years. Will has been her "what if" guy for those 9 years. Will Fern be able to go back to her dreams in Toronto, or will she be completely changed, just like the was the day she met Will Baxter?
All the goods and why it's a 5/5 star:
- I feel like authors can fall in a trap of having similar plots/situations. Carley outdid herself by making this situation completely different from Every Summer After, while keep the summer/lake vibes.
- The flow of going back and forth between time was seamless and kept me turning the page even when my eyes were closing.
- The relationship between Fern and her mother was complex and fully explored. This was what made me cry.
- The relationship between Will and Fern is multi-faceted over the years and is fully explained in a way that kept me satisfied.
- The relationship Fern has with herself I think encapsulates what happens when life doesn't go your way and you have to reconcile with the loss of dreams/the old you. I loved the progression Fern has.
Overall: If you're looking for an emotional, romantic summer read, this is it.

Thank you to Macmillian for an advanced listener copy of this book.
Description: Atalanta was meant to die on top of a hill after being abandoned by her parents. She's taken in by bears, then eventually by Artemis. Artemis tells Atalanta to join the Argonauts in their journey to get the golden fleece as Artemis's representative of sorts. Atalanta leaves the forest for this quest and is forever changed. Will she bring honor to Artemis, or will she be forgotten in history because she's a woman?
The good:
- I like the overall remembrance of Atalanta and her personality.
- The action during the travels of the Argonauts and coming home were excellent.
- I enjoyed the tension between Atalanta and the other Argonauts (whether romance or not)
- I feel like this was pretty quick-paced.
The loss of a star: While the pace was quick, I do feel like there were point so the book where a lot happens in a short amount of time, and others was drawn out. It was not as consistent of a flow for the book as I would have enjoyed. I found myself going back to listen to the faster paced parts because I was not expecting them. Also, and this is just me, the names get me all turned around and confused
Overall: If you liked Song of Achilles, Elektra, or Circe, you'll enjoy this book! However, I may not pick this one up as your very first greek mythology re-telling.

Description: Ava Wong is talking to a detective about the counterfeit scheme she was strong armed into. Her life was a mess: Her child was rejected from all preschools and was constantly screaming, her husband was living in a different apartment for work and she felt extremely alone. When an old friend blew into town, what else was Ava to do? Ava didn't realize how deep she was in the situation until it was too late. So now, she's righting the wrongs by telling the truth...at least, that's what it seems. Will Ava tell the truth, or do darker secrets remain in the dark?
The good:
- The twist: immaculate. I was not seeing it coming
- The flow of the story was overall good, I appreciate the fresh perspective of switching from 1st to 3rd person.
- I liked the characters overall and felt they were fully fleshed out.
- I liked the timeline and the detail devoted to the counterfeit world.
The loss of a star: The beginning you are thrown in and I was thoroughly confused until about a few chapters in? This slowed down the story quite a bit because I could not understand what exactly was happening until a while into the book. I think if maybe I read a description or a spoiler free review, I would have not been so confused.
Overall: If you're looking for a fresh, light mystery with a great twist, this is the book for you.

Description: Bri wants to make it as a rapper. She has her first battle and she goes somewhat viral. What does go viral is her first song. She puts a deeper meaning into her song, but folks don't look into that. Taking snippets out of context, people are coming after Bri left and right. Home isn't any better after her mom is laid off and her brother can't continue onto graduate school since he stays to support them. Will Bri be able to fix her mistakes or will she lose her life over her song?
This was perfection for me and here's why:
- I loved the complexities explored between race, poverty, school, etc. I feel like touched on every issue and made the book feel extremely real.
- The side characters all got to shine and had their distinct personalities.
- The family dynamics were complex and interesting, keeping me engaged every second.
- There is a romance side plot that I loved to see (I wish it was in the movie)
- The conclusion was satisfying but also realistic in my opinion and kept the entire book grounded.
Overall: I think everyone could read this book and enjoy it, but especially if you like hip-hop and other complex contemporary books, you'll love this.
