i loved this book. The way it was written, with the short sentences, the thoughts from the characters, the descriptions, it was all so wonderful. This story itself is sad, and I was left at the end of the book with a feeling of unease and grief. I think I was meant to feel that way so it was very well executed! I want to know more, have more questions answered and more secrets revealed. I almost wish there was a second book, but, then again, I think this book was amazing on it's own and extending the story may ruin it.
It was a good story and one I’ll think about for awhile. But I wanted to be a little more scared.
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator was good, but a little bit “robotic” at times. The story was a good one. I really liked the ending, and after reading the bonus short story called “The Ash-Born Boy” I like the ending of the Near Witch even more.
4.5 ⭐️
That last chapter really sealed my decision to read the rest of this trilogy. The last two pages were somewhat expected, and yet still surprised me. I really liked this book. The MC is strong and stubborn and deals with living two lives (but not well-and I appreciate that!). The relationship between Kiaran and Aileana is tense with just enough attraction between them to keep me interested in their personal relationship as well as their “working” one. The world is just real enough that I can believe this magical stuff is happening in Edinburgh. I’m looking forward to reading what comes next!

4.5 Stars! That ending... WHOA. I was disappointed that it didn't end in a resolution to the current issue, but it was still an awesome ending/cliff hanger! There are questions that are not answered, and for that, I applaud L.L. McKinney! That is the way to intrigue the reader and leave them desperate for more! Who is the "new" black night? WHY does Alice seem to have powers when she uses the swords? What the HECK happened to Chess to turn him into the thing he is at the very end when he attacked Maddie? How in the world is Alice's mom going to deal with Alice? And will Alice ever tell her the truth? And did Alice's dad have something to do with wonderland too? Why hasn't his death been fully explained?
So I really connected with Alice's Mom's character. I am a mom and I felt her emotions SO strongly! Such an amazing character, even when she wasn't in the story as much as the others. I will be adding the rest of the books to my TBR... and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go buy this book so I can own the physical copy! And I'll have to wait for the third... I should have plenty of time to read the second!

Probably an unpopular opinion but I just didn’t like this trilogy very much. The first book was good, and the story was very interesting. I didn’t like where it ended up. It felt too busy, and there were a lot of times when the scenes would magically change due to Legend’s illusions, or dreams... and it felt like an easy way to just change things without having actual reasons for it. Everything was very much perfect and it all ended so “happily ever after” that it felt cheap. But I know this was quite a complex story, so kudos to the author for that! It did all come to a resolution in the end. I think it was just too much “love love love love” for me.
This amazing and beautiful book is now one of my all time favorites. The way it is written, with the lyrical descriptions, took me to all the places Addie went. I am In Love with this story.
This crazy, dreamy tale is such a page turner. I had to know what was going to happen when Edie drifted off to sleep. And I craved the results when she woke up! I felt her emotions and trauma and wanted the best for her. And Wolf was the dreamy, music loving man that was her perfect fit. Rachel’s writing style sucks me in every time! I loved this book and had to read the prequel immediately after finishing. I couldn’t get enough! I will read anything and everything Rachel ever writes!
I had to read this immediately after finishing Off My Feet! This was a fun, funny, sad, traumatic and fast story that was so SO good. I loved the girls and their young, carefree life together. I loved their relationship and that they took in the cats. I loved Maddy and Jack and their whirlwind relationship. I even loved the gross parts... (
