I listened via audio book and I think I missed out on some things. I liked this story a lot though. It had a great plot, lots of twists, and a good group of characters. I’m interested in what comes next, but I’m not sure I’ll pick up the next book.

This was a good book, but not necessarily my preferred. It had a lot of politics and I don’t like that in a story. The miscommunication and assumptions between Kiem and Jainan drove me mad! These things lasted for a good chunk of the story- but the end was great. I started to really enjoy the story once
the two MCs crashed in the wilderness and had to connect/survive
. The whole story wrapped up well. The world was intricate and interesting and the relationship between the MCs ended wonderfully.

So good! This was sweet and wonderful! I adored Simon and his sense of humor. The other characters were all great, even Martin! This is such a good story and I’m so glad I read it.

This sucked me in quickly and it was great! I love how twisted Elizabeth is, and yet I completely understand her and empathize! Victor was totally messed up-and I was also naive to how depraved he was, just like Elizabeth.

I wanted more from this story. There could be so much more! Alternative timeline stories, continuation after these stories…
adventurous mysterious medium-paced

I truly did not expect it to end… there were twists and surprises that I couldn’t guess at. I love when that happens! I’m so glad there will be another book because I need more.

It ONLY loses .25 of a star because I feel like some emotion was lost in translation, literally. I wish I could read Brazilian Portuguese so I could read this in its original form! I loved this book. The way Felipe was written, with his thoughts all out there for us to read, and written as if he was just talking to us, while in his room, sitting on the bed, with the lights off… it was so wonderful. And the Mom!!! Felipe’s Mom was so well written. As a mom, I connected with Rita very much. I want to be her when I finish growing up…

If you like Pirates, Schemes, one bed trope, slow burn romance, snark, secrets, and self-discovery. Then don’t hesitate to read this book. It’s hard to write a review on a book that isn’t published yet, without giving too many spoilers away! So read the synopsis, check out the Instagram posts on this book, and get ready for August when this is out. Since this is the first book in a series, there is a lot of background info, character exploration, and set-up for the grand scheme. You won’t get a super fast paced action-adventure until the last 100 pages or so. So settle in to get to know this new world, and these piratey characters.
