This book was one of the recommendations from my "12 Reads from 12 Friends" Challenge! I did not even have this book on my radar... but @m_lovestoread on Instagram recommended it so I gave it a go! And it was WONDERFUL. The MC (Shahrzad) was believable, strong willed, and I enjoyed getting to know her. I actually really like Khalid as well, but not Tariq so much... I won't get too detailed because I want this to remain spoiler-free. Many times I'll read a first book in a series, and I'll know that I don't want to continue on with the series, but not this one! I want to see how this all works out. I'm rooting for Shahrzad + Khalid... That's all I'll say about that!

Okay! So this was one of those books that was EXTREMELY hyped and I was nervous that the hype was going to make it fall completely FLAT for me... it did NOT! I loved this book. The MC (Zhu) was morally grey... I love morally grey characters, after all; aren't we all morally grey in real life?
So, I'm sure you'll read the synopsis of this book and see that it's a Mulan retelling-but it's truly so much more than that. It also explores identity, self worth, cultural expectations, gender bias.... Ugh, this was just so good. Also, I did not know what to expect from the characters. I did not guess their choices and actions. I love being surprised in this way! Okay, so I won't continue because I'll get spoilery... Just Go Read This Book!

I expected to not enjoy this story… but this was so good! I couldn’t wait to find out what mysteries where in the town and how they all connected to Kallia… but the end of this book left nothing but more questions!!!! I loved it and need to know everything.

This volume had A LOT! Dylan's realization/coming out to Dani was good and sweet. It felt authentic and natural in the story. It wasn't forced in there! I enjoyed seeing all the new mutants but it got difficult to keep track sometimes of who was who/what their real and mutant names were, etc. This volume was a lot more gory and had more upsetting and sad or traumatizing moments. This volume is definitely NOT YA. I'm loving this series and plan on jumping into Volume 4 very soon!
adventurous emotional funny inspiring fast-paced

This book!!!! I cried, I laughed hysterically, I felt Pride, embarrassment, love… I was surprised and so happy with this story! AH!!! It was just as good as the first book!!! I can not wait for the next one!

This was a good book, but parts of it dragged on to long. I enjoyed hearing this read while following along in the physical book and the book is beautiful. I enjoyed the ending and I like the whole message this sent.
adventurous inspiring

This is such Ana amazing story. I adore these Cute Mutants! The way this book makes mutants New and Relevant and Different is genius! The relationships are wonderful and, of course, the Representation is fantastic!

I did not expect the emotions from the book! It was a good twist on the Peter Pan story-but the realistic emotions that Wendy deals with were what set this apart and made it great.
