Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery

As much as I dislike boiling down a book as to being "boring," that's pretty much the only explanation I have for why I didn't finish this.

It had me through the first few chapters, but then it progressively got less and less interesting. The pace slowed down when I expected it to speed up, and while I wouldn't necessarily say the plot is predictable, I'll say that for me, almost nothing felt surprising. In other words: I got bored.

Lastly, this is not the fault of the book, but I was expecting this to be more of a horror story than a fantasy. This was dark, but not scary at all.

The art is really cool though!

The writing style is really hard to get into. It breaks the "show, don't tell" rule. Lots of info dumping. I'm just gonna watch the movie adaptation again instead of finishing the book.

A bit of a slow start and the historical fiction writing style isn't very good, but I like the premise and am interested in seeing where it goes. I will finish this eventually, now just isn't the right time as I have some good books from the library calling my name!

I had a hard time trying to get into this, but I didn't read very far. I'll probably pick it up again sometime in the future.

Not very immersive or believable (I don't expect realism but believability is different), and I didn't care much for the characters. I think the beginning feels pretty rushed, so I didn't have time to get attached to the characters. I really wanted to like this, but the writing style didn't click with me.

Also, this is just a personal opinion but I find it very weird and uncomfortable that
a set of sisters are married to a set of brothers and have children with them. Sister-cousins? Gives me the creeps lol. I know people do that in real life, but it's definitely not something I want to read about, especially in a book for a younger audience.

The writing style was very plain and in some parts, didn't flow well. The plot seemed interesting but it was hard to get into, I feel like the pacing is off.

The writing style is painfully slow and unengaging.

The Other Black Girl

The plot moved way too slowly, and I felt that the writing style was bland, the plot felt contrived as well. It's not that bad, there are just other books I'm more interested in so I decided to prioritize them over this. I will be returning this to the library. I love the cover though :)

Tried to force myself to read this but I hated it so much I want to tear it to shreds and burn it. So fucking boring and annoying and unlikeable and too fucking long. I know what you're probably thinking if you like this book buy I don't care, I hated this so much that I can't even think about it objectively. I only made it a small way through and I feel like I wasted so much time on it.
