Not right vibe for me right now but will read later!!
Interesting twists, much braver with the character events, fav of the books so far. Don’t really know where it will go from here!!
Really interesting, must have been so confusing to write with everything going on but it threads well together.
It’s annoying and infuriating but purposefully and was great at showing the hypocrisy and real life attitudes that exist.
I’m excited to read more about Kuang’s process in writing this!!
—————
- like others, I was expecting it to be a little less “beach read / damatic” kind of thing at the end, but I think that choice (intentional or not) made it readable to a wide audience and gets people thinking
- according to Wikipedia, Kuang’s agent tried to encourage her to not publish this
- this is meant to be “zippy” satire and I agree!
- I listened to this as an audiobook and apparently that was a good idea as others were unable to read it but could enjoy it as an audiobook (because the main character becomes so insufferable)
I think it’s a really good read, I’m glad it exists and I’m glad I’ve read it and i will be recommending it, but it’s still a 4* for me

Excellent and bizarre as always. Lots of heart though, and loved the connections. Last section is obviously insane for various reasons. Found myself generally slowing down in first two sections to admire the prose, and wanting to interact with the text (with dramatic notes like “what?!?!”) in the third part.
Had only gotten like 1/3 into part 3 before I went to the author q&a and I really appreciated certain parts more than before. Excited to reread later with my new context, to read authority, to generally go down the rabbit hole!!

Some interesting new characters and concepts, but like I don’t think anyone died? Like there were no real term consequences. Also I wish the cancer-guy’s survival story was a little more interesting - like why isn’t he controlling the monster or something?
I took a big break in the middle, so I don’t remember this perfectly, but it built on the lore, answered questions, and ended good enough.
Really good, lots of action and very interesting story. I think I may have been a little bored at the beginning and furious about the house, but by the end I was fully on board. Interested in book 3!!
Interesting concept and has some great ideas. I like gore in my post apocalyptic adventure stories and thought it only added to the main concept.
I did lose a little interest as it turns out something else I got obsessed with also had a human science element, but still keen to listen to the other books (I got the whole trilogy in the audible deal)
