TW: blood, death, murder, dismemberment, torture, beheading, displayed corpses, incest, miscarriage

Slow start, but an absolute banger middle and ending. Dragons, queer and ace characters, dragons, political intrigue, dragons, deep and complexly real characters, and of course, dragons! #tometopple 2021

TW: mentions of...racism, racial slurs, murder, death, lynching, torture and cruelty, sexism, misogynior, rape, homophobia, trabsphobia, police brutality, white surpremisists

Ninety essays by ninety Black writers encompassing 400 years of Black history in America. Racism is sown into every fibre of the US. Its important us white folk to learn and undo the injustices of our ancesters and current laws that are enacting racial injustices.

TW: death, death of a parent, war, betrayal, murder

Such amazing retellings in this anthology. Honestly I enjoyed each one. It was brilliant to have the author's notes on the tales origins after each one. Probably my favourite anthology collection!

TW: Spiders

A graphic novel that's inclusive, queer, and all about decolonizing food! I learned lots! If you think eating bugs is weird than maybe you've been fed(pun intended)a bit of a racist naritive on food!

TW: suicide ideation, near drowning, bullying, homophobia, religious-based queerphobia, infidelity, mother/daughter relationships, loss of mother, parental abandonment, natural disaster (hurricane).

A unique and touching story of a girl trying to find her missing mother, while also developing an understanding of her queerness. A book rife with relationships, with flawed but relatable characters.

TW: death of past pets (not main cats), cats hunting/playing with prey

This is a favorite book I listened to constantly as a child as a book on tape from my local library. What I would not give to find a copy of that audiobook again! It was so expertly performed and narrated.

A charming collection of discoveries and observations by the author on her life with cats. The star often being Sasha, a charming tomcat.

TW: sexism, misogyny, fetishishing cultures, racism, infidelity, stalking

Wow. This one surprised me, in all the best ways. While there was a trope or two that felt predictable, they were integral for the plot and the final firecracker message. #writeherstory

TW: blood, gore, death, murder, vomit, mutilation, teeth removal

I really liked this book. My only hiccup was the current-tense writing style and long sentence structures that made it quite difficult for my ADHD brain to grasp at times. But still, overall I still was enraptured by the story, its message, and the haunting imagery.

TW: ableism and internised ableism (some called out), death, starvation, thirst, human cruelty

An easy-to-read, well paced, and fascinating look into a part of history I knew nothing about. I learned so much. I adored Nisha, she was so real. Her moods, emotions and writings brought her to life.
