This book slayed. It dealt a lot with body image and self esteem along with the two main characters recovering from toxic relationships and finding happiness in each other. An issue I have with romance novels talking about serious topics such as body image and abusive relationships is that they often just use it as a plot point but don’t really show how people are genuinely affected by these things or make it seem like once you meet a new person, all your problems are solve. I thought this book did a great job showing recovery and that people still struggle in new relationships. It also showed that the new relationship didn’t solve all the problems. Both the fmc and mmc recovered on their own and grew separate from their new love interest. They weren’t dependent on the other to move on and heal from their past, but they did help each other through the hard times which I thought was a nice balance.

 This was a fun read. I didn’t really like the main characters though. I liked the side characters a lot more. I also was not rooting for the main couple. I wish Mickey ended up with their catcher instead. I didn’t really like Mickey but I feel like they improved throughout the book, but Astra did not :/

I did really like how every character was obnoxiously gay, it was really fun to see and read about. It was a quick read and I would recommend it if you like silly quick gay reads, but the main couple kind of sucks so you just need to overlook that.

This book was cute and silly. I liked all the characters and even though the main couple was straight, there were tons of gay people. 2 lesbians and 1 bisexual. It slayed. I don’t have much to say because it was just a romance book, nothing groundbreaking but it was super cute and I stayed interested the whole time. The main guy was a loser and socially awkward (both in a good way) which was really fun because I am also a loser and socially awkward (both in a good way). It’s refreshing to have a mmc that isn’t like a brooding alpha male 😤. He was just a normal guy and it was fun.

This book is absolutely amazing and I need everyone to read it right now. The author did an amazing job talking about all the topics in the book, such as racism, homophobia, and family issues. 

I think the characters were very well written. I didn’t dislike a single main character which is normally hard to accomplish since I hate everyone and normally choose at least one character to beef with. 

I very much relate to Caesar and Yami in many different ways. They both actually felt like teenagers struggling with their issues which I think is hard for authors to portray sometimes. I feel like authors typically make their teens seem like either children or adults and not an in between.

It’s also gay which is always a benefit and I think the book does a great job combining the serious topics in with the silly little gay stuff.

I’m obsessed with this. This put a lot of my thoughts and feelings into words and pictures in a way that I can’t. It really shows the struggle of discovering your sexuality and gender especially when you don’t really have the terminology or experience to help guide you. I’m not really good at put my thoughts into words, which is why I don’t often leave detailed reviews, but this book really spoke to me. I highly recommend it.

This book was fine.

I like the fmc, but the mmc irritated me. He was like a typical guy instead of a fictional guy which was annoying. Like, I’m reading a book why would I want the guy to be real…..

All the guys commented on women sexually a lot which got annoying and the mmc’s best friend was annoying. He seemed to just be there to prevent the relationship from going smoothly. 

They also got together like ¼ of the way into the book and when that happens, I know that the rest of the book is going to piss me off because it’s going to be a bunch of nonsense that could be easily avoided by communicating like normal people.

Also, I was rooting for the fmc and a side character (her editor) to get together more than I was for the mmc and fmc. 

Helga is honestly one of the most relatable characters ever. I, too, would upend my entire life because 1. I heard a priest talk for ten minutes, 2. my uncle’s wife was mean to me, and 3. a man proposed to me. The end, although very realistic, was devastating and I refuse to accept that it actually happened. Because why would a man be there???

Also Helga is gay. 

This book slayed so hard. It was very interesting to read about regular people being lesbians in everyday history rather than only the big names in lesbian history. I think the book was very good at including humor into history also. That helped keep me entertained because sometimes I have a hard time reading about just history with no fun element. 

I wish schools talked and taught about gay people more. All of the queer people in this book are a lot more interesting than the other stuff they taught us. 

A silly little romance of people who hate each other. <3 

I think that the author did a good job keeping the angst alive even when the couple got together which normally goes away in romance. I also love a man being obsessed with his girlfriend. There is simply no other way for a man to be. 

I did get annoyed with the lack of communication between the couple towards the end. A lot of their problems would have been solved instantly if one of them just said what they were thinking.

This is a Mateo hate page btw. He did grow on me a little bit throughout and then he lost me again at the end. Rufus is a king tho, I love him.

Spoiler Alert: They do both die at the end. It was actually really upsetting how they died because I felt like it was completely avoidable (and all Mateo’s fault) and didn’t really fit their characters all that well.

I did like the book. It’s an interesting concept and I feel like had a lot of interesting plot points. I feel like the romantic aspect of it was not needed and felt very rushed. It felt like the author forgot it was supposed to be a romance and then threw them together at the last minute just because they are both queer. I would’ve definitely preferred them staying just friends. I feel like the romance didn’t really add to the plot or message in a way that the friendship wasn’t already providing.
