I love this book and this TV series. I do think that the TV series is better and is able to capture a lot more of what the writer was intending, but I really enjoyed the script and what the actors were given to make the show. 

I have a lot of thoughts about Fleabag that would probably make me seem very mentally ill, but I think that, to keep this review short, I will just touch on a few things.

I relate to Fleabag in a lot of ways and her relationships with other people. She is just going through life and reacting to what is given to her. Her monologue about wanting someone to tell her how to live pretty much sums up almost all my thoughts. 

I definitely prefer series two over one. Series one adds a lot of needed context and helps show the character growth of both Fleabag and Claire (sisters) in series two. I love series two more for a lot of reasons, such as the relationship with the priest and the “woman are born with pain built in” speech, but the main reason I love it more is because of the growth in the relationship between Claire and Fleabag. Fleabag starts the series off with “this is a love story” and very obviously, there is the love story between her and the priest, but I saw on the internet once that the love story is actually between her and Claire, which I have not be able to stop thinking about since. It is heavily focused on the two sisters and them growing and learning together. My favorite line of the entire book and TV show is when Claire says that she “would only run through an airport” for Fleabag. 

This book slayed so hard. I highly recommend it. I loved all the main characters and I am obsessed with Gwen’s dad. They establish very early on that he is a whore and over the book you see how much of a #FeministKing he is. 

I think the main couple was done really well. It still held true to being a book in the 1800s where gay people weren’t accepted without being depressingly homophobic which a lot of gay period pieces fall flat on. I know it’s literally a book about lesbians but I love how gay they are. Gwen spends like the first half of the book praising the ground Beth walks on and constantly thinking about her and always wanting to touch her and still doesn’t realize that she’s gay. It’s very relatable.

I think the main side characters also add a lot of interest to the book. I wasn’t just rooting for the main couple; I was rooting for everyone.

I love Dead Poets Society (it’s my favorite movie) and this should be a 5 star book, but I had to give it a 4. The author added two scenes that were weird, unnecessary, and not in the movie. First, when Knox went to the party with Chris and groped her boob while she was kissing Chet and then where Mr. Keating showed a group of his teenaged students softcore porn??? It was so bizarre that the author decided to add those scenes and I had to take a star off for that. Will definitely read again but will skip those scenes since they add nothing to the plot.

Other than those two scenes, I still love the plot and the characters. I definitely feel like this story is best as a movie, but it still gets the message through as a novel.

This gave tumblr poetry but not necessarily in a bad way. It’s just not my vibe poetry wise. I did enjoy some of them, but overall, they weren’t groundbreaking poems.

There is a poem in here that starts with “there are two wolves inside of you” and I thought that was hilarious.

I don’t have much to say about this book. It’s poetry and I have nothing groundbreaking to add. Amanda Lovelace is probably my favorite poet. Her poems are really beautiful and insightful without being cheesy. She is able to put a lot of my thoughts into words. 

I do recommend her, but this was not my favorite book by her. I prefer her “Women Are Some Kind of Magic” series over her fairytale one. It was still good, but it leans more into romantic love rather than self love and friendship which is not my vibe as you guys know.
