This is a retelling of the goose girl fairytale. To be honest, though, I don't remember that one too well. I recall that it exists, and that's about it. Maybe after I finish these books I'll read that story and see how it stacks up.
But on to this book... I really enjoyed it. The prequel short was a nice introduction to the main character and I loved the way everything was written. The characters felt properly fleshed out and I love the full circle explanations of certain things at the end of the story.
But I think my favorite part (very minor with no details spoiler) is that there's no instant happily ever after. This book ends with a very realistic work-in-progress vibe that I just adore!
