Absolutely loved this, I'm sure Katy would not mind me saying I had the time of my life. 
I already loved Dirty Dancing and this really was a love letter to a beautiful and masterful film. 
If you love Dirty Dancing this was laugh out loud funny, and so much fun. 
Some really insightful bits about her own life and how Dirty Dancing effected her and how it shaped her growing up. 
Loved it. 

This was a very sad book, I don't know why I thought this was going to be a chilled adventure book with mild peril, because oh me oh my is this not it. 

It was really harsh in places and I'll put some spoilers below so you can see what I mean. 

shooting a baby monkey from the trees, hunting a tiger goes wrong and they shoot a child, death of the main character amongst other things. That ending. Fuuuuuck. Devastating.

I really enjoyed this, a book about a boy who's supposed to be named by his grandmother in Calcutta but the letter is lost in the post.
Its a 2nd generation story about how Gogol grows up in a Bengali family in the suburbs of America, and how he wants to live a life far removed from his Indian heritage. 
I really enjoyed it. 

It was just too dense and I felt like I was not understanding the text, I basically felt dumb reading it and it was just so much information, 100 pages in infinite jest is like 300 pages in another book. 

The constant too-ing and froing to footnotes sometimes whole chapters in themselves I just could not. 

It basically felt too much like homework and I just read for pleasure so it's been put in the DNF pile. 

Absolutely loved this book, I feel that this is what Emily St. John Mandel does best. 
A winding tale with a large cast of characters who although seemingly adrift with no common link there is a delicate spider web of links that holds them all together. 
Honestly one of my favourite books this year and I'm annoyed at myself that I didn't read this sooner. 

Found the main character unbareable, she is just awful and not in a redeeming misunderstood way but a delusional, unkind and self centred kind of way. 

While her dad lays dying in a hospice she refuses to visit. 
While her mother reaches out to talk, she is offish only caring about her own feelings. 
When her sister is upset with her because she has acted like a douche she gives her sister the silent treatment. 

I just didn't like her, she just wasn't my cup of tea. 

Books is presented in the format of Fawns emails to the various people she upsets along the way then there is a diary entry. 

In the end she softens but I just by that point had no feelings for her in a positive way and found her to be unbareable. 

Half marks on this one, one of my longest outstanding books I have brought and not read so satisfying to tick it off.

The book goes on a bit too long but it didn't totally outstay its welcome. 

I got fairly emotionally invested in what had happened to Millie and how that impacted her relationship with her daughter. 

book deals with childloss, in a pretty horrific way, she has a c-section and the doctor is drunk and drops the baby, he also ties her tubes when she expressly states this is against her wishes and leads her to a dependency on barbiturates. The doctor also commits suicide because of his guilt.

I loved this little piece of art, what a lovely thing it is to own!

This was a big mixed bag I enjoyed some of the short stories but not others, I think I may have liked this more if I had read it rather than listening to the audio book. 

Really liked this one, thought it was very good, a real character study.
