This was an impulse Barnes & Noble buy (we all do it, don't judge) and I've loved it. It's definitely a coffee table kind of book, but it's a fun collection of interviews originally published in The New York Times Book Review with authors talking all about books and authors and literature and reading and all that fun booky stuff. It's been a fun book to flip through during my lunch break. I've loved seeing the ways the greater community of writers connects, with authors recommending works by other authors and vice versa, debating the merits of famous works, talking about dead authors they'd want to meet, etc. If you like reading and like hearing about what authors like reading, this is a great book to pick up and keep on your bedside table!
I just LOVE Nouwen. LOVE him. I picked up this little book a long time ago when I first heard of him and wanted an overview of his writings (I've since read quite a few of his books). It's broken up by topic, with quotes and excerpts pulled from all of his books, so it's a great place to start if you haven't read Nouwen or just want to read based on specific ideas or topics!
I just love everything I've ever read from Berry, and this collection of Sabbath poems is no different. It's more nature/agriculture/environment focused than some of his other collections, but powerful and beautiful and organic and rich nonetheless. I loved these poems and flagged many of them for future re-reads!
This book is an incredible read. I didn't vote for Obama and wasn't a fan for a while, but as time went on and as the political climate has changed dramatically, I've come to appreciate and respect Obama so much more. I've been interested in the intersection of his faith and politics for a while (since listening to a podcast with his faith advisor Joshua DuBois a while back) and this book was really a brilliant read. I learned a lot, was inspired and encouraged, loved the behind-the-scenes stories, and really appreciated the thoughtfulness and relatable nature of how Wear crafted this. Highly recommend this one if you're at all curious about how faith and politics coincide, if you're an Obama fan or someone who doesn't know much about the man, or if anything about the presidency interests you.
