I wanted to love this one because I ADORE Little Women but mostly it just annoyed me??? Using the characters of LW but trying to make it modern, it mostly just felt unoriginal and cheesy and shallow in comparison. I didn’t but into the Jo/Chef dynamic at ALL and Meg felt like SUCH a one-dimensional housewife and it just did not do it for me.
Thanks to @randomhouse for this one! // This was just the twisty, surprising, unpredictable read I needed to mix up all the romances I’ve been reading lately! Cons and marks and grifters and theft and secrets abound in this one, and it kept me guessing until the end.
This one was recommended to me by my counselor (he read many excerpts in our sessions, and I knew I wanted to read the whole thing) and I can't rave enough. This book is rich and helpful and meaningful and so incredible -- if you're on any sort of healing journey from any sort of hurt, abuse, pain, grief, etc... read this one. It's a soothing balm for any aching soul.
In hindsight, I don’t know why I requested this one from @netgalley when I didn’t even like the first book I read from this author??? I got click happy and overeager, I think! It’s a true romance with little plot and much steaminess and that’s just not my jam. The storyline that was there felt 100% cliche and laughable and I couldn’t buy into any of it. If you’re into that kinda thing, you’d love this one, especially since it’s the story of side characters from the other books in the three-part Fix Her Up series so you can keep reading afterward, too!
Requested this one as soon as I saw a friend compare it to The Hating Game (a romance I looooved)— it definitely had similar vibes but didn’t win me over quite as much. It took me a while to get into it and it relied heavily on political party/affiliation cliches and stereotypes for a while, but it did take a turn for me halfway through! A fun romance with lots of tension and liberal vs conservative sparring and a totally predictable plot.
This was the third book about detective Manon Bradshaw, and honestly, I wish I had stopped after the first. They’ve lost steam drastically in my opinion, and this one felt like a mess of ideas and storylines and attempts at relevance/deeper themes that just didn’t work. Not a fan.
I flew through this one last night (I’m off my book a day game and trying to catch up!) and mostly it just made me miss the Olympics and want to watch Stick It. (Anyone else love that movie as a teenager?!) It’s a story about gymnastics and a new romance but it felt like it couldn’t decide which one it wanted to be, so it didn’t really do either of them well. It was solidly ⭐️⭐️ (okay) for me!
spent my early morning being inspired and soothed and comforted by these beautiful, poetic, powerful words. I’ve loved everything she’s written and this one was no exception! (How had I never read this one before?!)
Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies: And Other Rituals to Fix Your Life, from Someone Who's Been There
I looooved this one. It’s self-help in the best way — comical, not condescending, honest and helpful and hilarious, witty and wise, practical and purposeful, and just FUN to read. Highlighted the heck out of it and will 100% be adding it to my library
What a juicy memoir this was! I didn’t grow up listening to/watching Jessica in anything but I still found this to be a really interesting and fun read with some great dirt on John Mayer and some actually decent writing, too. She’s got more to her than I ever gave her credit for!
