This was a quick read but I'm not sure how i feel about this one. Whenever someone talks about this story they say it's amazing and that you really should read it but i think it fell flat for me.

I loved this volume, wayyy funnier than volume 3. This comic series is basically Spidey in space and I love it.

I have been blessed by the comic gods.

This series is pure gold.

Nova Volume 1: Origin: Holy shit I've never heard of this Nova guy but he's great.
Nova, Vol. 2: Rookie Season: Not as funny as the first volume but still amazing.
Nova, Vol. 3: Nova Corpse: Meh, this was a filler.
Nova, Vol. 4: Original Sin: Everything is beautiful.
Nova Vol. 5: Axis: My favourite of the series, I couldn't stop smiling and laughing. Tip: don't read this around people.
Nova, Vol. 6: Homecoming: A slightly rushed ending but I loved it none the less.

I can't recommend this series enough.

This was so interesting to read a second time around, especially now that I have the historical background for all of this.
Also, I really love Percy Jackson?

It's over now. I think I will need a bit of time to properly process the end of this adventure.

I have very mixed feelings about this book.

 I don’t understand why these novellas exist. I enjoyed the first one No Place Like Oz, it was what Fairest is to The Lunar Chronicles. It gave us more of a feel for how Dorothy became soo evil. This one was boring and pointless. This series of books was meant to be a trilogy. Now, it has 4 books and 6 novellas, these novellas have then been turned into 2 bind ups. So, in a way it’s a 6 book series.

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away. Novellas were small deleted scenes that we didn’t need to read, they didn’t hold important information about upcoming books. As far as I’m aware these novellas aren’t crucial to the series so you should be fine without reading them. I don’t think it’s even the individual novellas that are pissing me off, it’s the amount of extra money the author is making from it. I’m sorry if you disagree but this is just my take on it and you are welcome to your own opinion.

I said before that the novellas were turned into 2 bind ups. Why? That was completely unnecessary. I understand that some people don’t own kindles or other ways to read the novellas so they may find the idea of a bind up really useful, that’s not my issue. Two bind ups. Not cool Paige. You and your publishers couldn’t have waited a bit longer until you’d published all of the novellas?

I enjoy novellas, they’re the deleted scenes, who doesn’t love deleted scenes? But usually with deleted scenes they come with the movie and you don’t have to buy them as an extra thing. 

 I enjoyed this a lot. Although Ben was only deaf in one ear for a brief period I did enjoy his perspective during that time. It was really interesting to be able to really know what Ben was talking about and how he was feeling in the start of the novel. I am also half deaf and found myself relating to what Ben was thinking and laughing at myself because Ben's actions and reactions to some things were quite similar to mine.

Ben is quite young in this novel and is having to share a bedroom with a family member around his age. The author didn't sugarcoat Ben's deafness which I liked, Ben still got teased by his roommate. Young children who are not deaf often find it hard to get their head around the idea of someone not being able to hear everything. Living in the same boat that Ben lived in I can definitely confirm that it's a hard life and being deaf sucks. But we live with it and that's what Ben was doing. Until... he got hit by lightning.

Because I am deaf I sometimes find it hard to believe that people can live their lives with full hearing. I was born half deaf, so I have never known a different life. I feel like the world is already too loud and I really don't know what I would do if all of a sudden I was to lose the hearing that I do have. Given the circumstances and his age I thought he handled everything quite well. My main problem with what happened and how Ben got to NYC was that he was left alone in a hospital. While he didn't have a mother, he did still have some family. Can someone honestly tell me that none of them could have stayed with him?

All I can say is that Ben has some REALLY bad luck.

The first time I read this I rated it a 4.5 stars but this time I can't get myself to rate it any higher than a 2.5. I enjoyed this because of course, I love the characters but, overall this felt off to me. I've enjoyed all the books in this series, even Fairest, but I felt disconnected from this bind-up as a whole. I think my problems with this short story collection are purely that it comes across as a huge cash grab, more than anything else. I didn't dislike the stories, and I love the characters but the collection as a whole felt disingenuine because we already knew most, if not all of the information in the collection. Aside from 2 stories, we had heard all the stories before, throughout the series.

There were 2 stories that stood out, The Little Android (a new take on The Little Mermaid) and
Something Old, Something New. The Little Android, however, felt more like a random thought or a deleted scene/character that never made it to the final cut. And, Something Old, Something New was the only story that I really felt connected to because it occurred 2 years after Winter (book 4) ended.

Honestly, I feel like this anthology would have benefitted a lot more by just being a couple of stories set 2 years after book 4 (like the last story) and showing where all of the characters are individually - starting with Something New, Something Old, instead of ending with it. Especially, since I'm pretty sure, at the time this came out, all of the other stories had already been released on Kindle anyway.

Individual story reviews:

The Keeper - I appreciated this little glimpse into Michelle Benoit's life and how she kept Cinder alive. It was also really interesting to get a look into Scarlet's family background. We also got to meet Logan but, mostly I just felt really detached from all of the characters in the story. That being said, the only thing that really caught my attention was how neglectful Scarlet's father was.

Glitches - This really did nothing for me, I already knew Cinder's adoptive family was trash. I mean, I feel like I'm going to keep saying this, but we already knew all of this.

The Queen's Army - I honestly completely forgot about this story, until I went to write up this review. That being said, while I was reading this I did enjoy it. My heart hurt for Wolf, I feel like it always does whenever he's on the page. Out of all the stories up to this point, this was definitely my favourite. I always appreciate more Wolf, even though what I'm ready is usually pretty sad.

Carswell's Guide to Being Lucky - This was so pointless it's not even funny. We already knew all of this. I feel like Meyer was trying to write a story for all of the characters but got stuck with Thorne.

After Sunshine Passes By - I love Cress but, again, we knew all of this and it served no purpose.

The Princess and The Guard - I will say that I will always be here for more Winter x Jacin content and it was certainly interesting to read about Winter's descent into insanity. But, and I hate to sound like a broken record here, we already knew all of this stuff and it really wasn't necessary. God, I sound like such a pessimist. I swear, I love them, but everything about these stories was so underwhelming to me.

The Little Android - This was the only story in the collection revolving around a character we had never met before, though Cinder did pop up at one point. It was a quick take on The Little Mermaid and I think it was included because at one point Meyer was considering a Little Mermaid storyline in the series. honestly, this was kind of pointless and I felt the least interested in this story because there was really no time to ever get attached to any of the characters.

The Mechanic - This was literally just Cinder and Kai's first meeting but in Kai's pov. It wasn't anything special tbh.

Something Old, Something New - They're all cuties and I love them. Especially Jacin and Winter and Wolf. (also Kai, Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Thorne and Iko). Honestly, this is exactly what the entire anthology should have been like.
