Honestly I almost DNF'd this at the start because I just wasn't vibing with it but I stuck it out and didn't end up hating it. Calla got in my nerves a lot in the beginning and Jonah could be quite mean and not in a fun enemies to lovers kind of way, just in a "stay out of that man's way because he might run you over" kind of way. I really enjoyed the grief exploration towards the end, though I thought it was very rushed through in a couple of pages when it could've taken over more of the book. All in all, I liked the ending, but not enough that I'll be continuing the series.
psa: stealing a woman's makeup (including her hair straightener etc) and telling her she looks better without it isn't sexy and you should get a kick to the balls for your efforts.

This was the only book I could make myself pick up this week and I think it turned out to be the best way to start off my reading in 2023!

Yes, I know I only just read this a few days ago but I just had to re-read it and honestly now that I have I'm holding myself back from another re-read! I love this story so much and the family dynamic kills me every year! There aren't very many books that have made me cry but this one brings out the waterworks every time!

Once again Mariana Zapata has thrown me for a total loop here because I really didn't think anything could beat The Wall of Winnipeg and Me but somehow she's managed it! This is my perfect grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, family-focused love story! I loved it from start to finish and I already can't wait to read it again. You can bet your ass I'll be recommending this to absolutely everybody in the future because this, to me, was absolutely fantastic! I loved how nature-centric the story was and honestly, I was just so in love with that protective single dad who lived across the driveway and his adorable, loveable son!
Also, omg Mariana if you're ever feeling quirky you should absolutely write that bodyguard romance you alluded to with Yuki because I think that might actually combust and it would be such a good way for me to go. Thank you.

This will never get a full five stars because I can't let the meatball nickname go. But, other than that, this really had me smiling from ear to ear.

Oh my god. Somebody hold me back because I think I'm about to become fully obsessed with these two and I finally understand why so many people have been comparing this to the show Spinning Out. I rarely get gooey over a couple but I absolutely fell in love with Ivan and Jasmine! I loved them together from the start and even more so by the end when they became a proper trusting team. They were the absolute definition of the perfect couple to me, and this really had to be the first time I've ever really thought that two characters could be perfect for each other. They just knew what the other needed without speaking, even when they weren't getting along and I loved every second of it. I will absolutely be re-reading this in the future, Lukov is now officially a favourite romance of mine!

I don't know why but in my head I really thought this was going to be a favourite romance to rival Wait For It and The Wall of Winnipeg and Me but as it turns out this was absolutely not the Mariana Zapata romance for me and it's my least favourite so far. I really enjoyed the sporty moments of the book and I liked Sal well enough but, I just never grew to love Sal and Kulti together as a couple enough for me to really be convinced of how to ride or die Kulti was for Sal in the end. The whole book was pretty predictable and slow, I'm glad I've read it because there were some really good moments but, I don't see myself ever re-reading this in the future or ever really thinking about it again, unfortunately.

I can confidently say that this was not the book for me. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to see these characters together or to get past all the horribly problematic and toxic aspects of this story as a whole. Not the book for me, but I seem to be in the minority here.

My least favourite of Marina Zapata’s books that I’ve read so far, but not a bad book by far. I wasn’t totally convinced by the love story and I thought there was still a bit to go before they should’ve gotten together but I still like them together. I doubt I’ll ever reread this but I’m certainly not mad I read it.

We have a serious contender for my favourite Mariana Zapata romance right here! I absolutely loved Diana and Dallas, though I'll be honest I had a hard time remembering their names when I wasn't reading the book, or sometimes while I was reading... but I think that's a me problem? Either way, I really enjoyed this one and getting to know Diana and her two adorable nephews Josh and Lou. This was a crazy slow burn and the main characters didn't get together until like, the second last chapter but I actually really didn't mind. This is my favourite kind of romance, the one where the romance is clearly a big part of the story but takes the back burner a lot of the time and instead we get some good character development and really get to understand the characters and their lives, both with and without the love interest. It's a proper slow burn, but one of my favourites!

I've read a lot of brilliant books so far this year but this has to be the best so far! I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being my best book of 2022! It’s whip smart and so so entertaining. I’ll absolutely be rereading this in the future reading more from Adrian Tchaikovsky!
