very interesting exploration of parallel worlds and how different choices shape our fate, abuse, privilege and colourism. I would have liked to see more of the other worlds though and the ending felt a bit anti-climactic.
this could have been very good if the romance wasn't insta-love ( I love love a "monster" developing an instant obsessive love for someone, but this wasn't really that. They were just dating with zero conversation about it, like? Excuse me?). I found the writing style to be simplistic and intrusion of modern terminology felt jarring, even if I appreciated the inclusion of non-binary identities.
Loveable characters:

I wanted to love this but unfortunately it played heavily into bisexual stereotypes and the MC being friendly with the rapist was just too much. Like I understand I wasn't necessarily meant to like this main character and that queer people aren't perfect, but this just didn't work for me, which is unfortunate. If this had been more about the MC's difficult relationship with her mother, I would have liked this more.
I fix my autistic son (that I refuse to get diagnosed because big pharma scary) by plugging him into my dead manic pixie dream girl bisexual cheater wife's consciousness.
This is why I don't read books written by men.
