I thought it was about time to jump on the Bridgerton train and see how the books compared to the show. It was basically what I expected! I did like how much more developed Simon was in the book versus the show. Is this incredible writing? No. But, I was still entertained!
So maybe it was my fault for reading the first two in this series back-to-back, but this one was just too similar to the first for me to like it. I expected to like it more because I had heard how great Kate was, and while I liked her, the story beats in this book were almost identitcal to the first, and Anthony's story was so much less compelling to me than Simon's. I'm giving it one more book in the series, but if it's the same storyline again I'll have to give up and just enjoy the show!
So I accidentally bought the second book in this series first, so I made a point to read this one. This series is interesting because of the emphasis on history, specifically the women's movement in England. The characters in this series are interesting, but didn't blow me away. This one had a lot of Beauty and the Beast vibes, with a very broody main man, but overall it was fine.
The magic system in this book was fascinating. I loved the connection between women and magic. All three sisters were fascinating and different. The plot itself lost me a few times, but the writing and the characters made up for it!
This second book had a pretty different vibe to it. I like the main woman more than the first one, but wasn't as much of a fan of the overall plot. This series is pretty different than other historical rom-coms, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite out there.
Not a fan of this one. The atmosphere was cool, but that was about it. I wasn't into the mystery, and it only got interesting at the end. I didn't really get the main character's backstory, but it was fine I guess.
I read this book with my small group book club and really enjoyed it. It was very introspective and allowed me to really inspect my thoughts and feelings with the different aspects of church. It made me pay more attention to the parts of church and worship that I hadn't before. I also appreciate her openness about how her journey with church has gone. Overall this was an interesting read that made me think about things that I haven't before!
Very fun historical romance! The characters are great; very well written and engaging. The whole plot situation in this one was a bit ridiculous, but that was part of the point (and part of the fun!). I admit I was more drawn to some side characters, so I was glad when the second book featured them, but this was a fun read!
For some reason I have a big fascination with genetics, so this book was one I knew I had to read. It was riveting (if you like genetics and science), and was a good mix of heavy science and human stories. I don't know a lot about the science behind genetics, but I was still able to keep up with the content. The story of CRISPR is so interesting, and the people behind the different developments are great to read about. I feel more attuned to CRISPR overall now, and was happily entertained while learning as I read this book.
Somehow this is my favorite Bridgerton book so far? The first two suffered from their similarities, so I was dubious going in as I was worried I was in for the same story a third time. Thankfully, it was not. The Cinderella vibes didn't last the whole time, thankfully, but really this one was the most fun of the series so far for me.
