Literally nothing happened in this book and I don’t understand why it’s so popular. It’s remotely emotional, but the characters were pretty flat and there were so few plot moments that this book could have been done in 50 pages. Do not get the hype at all. 

This book is just beautiful and gentle. The artwork is gorgeous and the fairytales were wonderful. I just loved everything about this book. 

This was such a beautiful and moving story. The two characters are wonderfully depicted and the way that Acevedo portrays grief is incredible. Her use of language is off the charts. I loved this book so much!

I’m not sure how to feel about this book. I liked the mystery itself, it’s just the delivery I’m not totally sold on. I actually liked the literal author-insertion that Horowitz did, it’s just his fictional detective himself I didn’t quite get. Hawthornes not as brilliant as Sherlock Holmes, but they act as though he is, and he’s twice as rude with a dash of seemingly needless homophobia. Why doesn’t Hawthorne talk about himself? What’s the purpose of him lying so much? Horowitz makes it pretty clear we aren’t supposed to like Hawthorne, which puts all of the importance on Horowitz himself, which isn’t always successful. Im still searching for my next Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot, and I'm not sure if Horowitz and Hawthorne are it. 

This book was like a prolonged fairy tale, and thankfully I love fairy tales. It was beautifully written and the world was so well crafted. I will admit, it felt like nothing happened for a long time, and I was a bit confused at first. It turned out to be a pretty strong case against missionary work and the dangers of erasing a culture. I’m excited to get into the rest of the trilogy, as I’ve heard each book gets better from here!

It took me a while, but I ended up enjoying this book. It was a little too complicated for me, just in the many threads and the non-linear timeline. But towards the end those threads payed off and there was a good conclusion. I liked Alex, and Dawes and Turner were interesting as well. The sequel should be interesting!

I’ve been in a slump with YA books lately, but this one definitely breaks that. It has one of the coolest magic systems I’ve read, and funny and fully realized characters that are so memorable. I loved every second of this book and cannot wait to recommend it to my students. 

Woof was this book good. I loved Georgie and Travis was just the right kind of messed up. Their chemistry was great and the steamy scenes were excellent. My only complaints were that the third act conflict was a bit quick and didn’t really feel like it fit the rest of the book, and honestly the use of “baby girl” throughout, ha!

The concept of this book was interesting, but the actual follow through was a bit difficult. I didn’t fully understand the world until part of the way through, and the romance was so quick it was unbelievable. While I liked where the relationship with Jember and Andi ended up, he started off as way too awful to fully merit his redemption in my opinion. 

It took me a while to get into this book, but once I did I was there for the ride. It was a little wordy and complicated, and I don’t think it’s the best mystery I’ve ever read, but I’ve certainly never read anything like it before. I think I liked the authors first book better, but I’m still intrigued by his writing.
