Beautiful Country was the first memoir I’ve read from an immigrants perspective, and i’m glad I picked it up. I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t expecting how heavy it would be. I say that as a white woman who hasn’t experienced anything close to what Qian and her family has. Whether it was hard for me to read the family’s story of struggle or not, it was raw and extremely well written story . In the end I found Beautiful country to be an eye opening and important book for anyone to read, especially those who have been lucky enough not to know the immigrant (especially undocumented ) struggle to simply feed their family and adjust to a new country. Please read this book.

I found legendborn to be very easy to follow, and intriguing. The author wrote the characters well, I felt like I could connect well to Bree. I related to her on the level ,that we both recently lost our respective mothers. Legendborn is a Very well written book. I will also add that the narrator on the audiobook is incredible.
Despite the book being slow at times, I really enjoyed the story itself. I enjoyed getting a tiny glimpse into what Vietnamese culture is. I enjoyed this
Story via audiobook, but I’ll definitely be getting the physical copy of this book and reread it.
