This was an interesting read. I went in knowing basically nothing about it, and I think that was a good way to do it. It feels like a cross between a time travel romance and a commentary. It’s like someone was overthinking the phrase “it was a different time” and also slightly annoyed by 'politically correct’ people who don’t actually know what's going on but really want to look good.
I’m not sure how I feel about the characters, they are all very complex. The FMC/narrator is really annoying, but I also understand her to a point. The MMC is very much of his time in terms of how he acts, but I think parts of his character were overdone to make him palatable. I liked the side characters more than the main ones.
My biggest annoyance with this book was the ending. I know its meant to be open-ended but it felt both too open and not open enough.

This was truely awful. Damsels in dress and their big men saving them, with a whole lotta internalised misogyny (if it was actually written by a woman, and I hope it wasn’t because that is just too sad).
