“The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones,” tells the story of Ethan Harper. He is a mixed-race boy who is sent to live with this aunt and uncle for the summer in Alabama, 1955. While working at his uncle’s malt shop, he meets Juniper Jones, a girl who is a free spirit. Juniper plans to have the best summer and ropes, Ethan, into helping her.
In this small town, Ethan starts to realize the racial tensions and discrimination that he is experiencing. He learns about the injustices of racism. He has to deal with being the only black person in this small town and how to cope with the discrimination he is facing.
This is a beautiful book about friendship, racial tensions, heartbreak, and having the best summer imaginable. It is a coming of age story. Ethan is stripped of the childlike innocence when he realizes how deeply rooted racism is in people despite him doing them no wrong.
“The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones” is the perfect read. It was joyful, hard-hitting, and heartbreaking all tied in one. I think this is an essential book for Young Adults (and anyone) to read. It weaves together issues of racism and discrimination set in a beautiful story about friendship and having the best summer ever.

Sabriel was a pretty good book. I first heard about it when I was in middle school and decided it would be a fun book to listen to on my commute. That being said, this book is average. I didn’t hate it; I didn’t love it. It won’t be a book I remember in a few months. Sabriel is on a journey to find her father who had gone missing. He was the abhorsen, and she becomes the new abhorsen as she tries to find him. We follow Sabriel on her journey with a talking cat and eventually she meets a soldier named Touchstone. I thought the writing was fine. It was just average. There wasn’t any character development for any of the characters, but based on the writing I think that this book is aimed toward younger readers so that might be why. In YA novels that I usually read, I get pretty irritated at the narrator but that doesn’t happen in this book, Sabriel is a pretty good character to follow. She has a purpose in the novel which I found refreshing compared to other YA novels. It tries to lean toward epic fantasy, but it doesn't quite hit the mark for me.
Thank you Macmillian-Tor/Forge for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! This sounds amazing! I can't wait to read it!
Trigger warnings: Graphic rape, graphic animal death
‘Daughter of the Forest’ a beautiful story about the lengths a girl would go to save her brothers. Sorcha is set with an impossible task, she must lift the spell that was cast by her evil stepmother, an enchantress. Her stepmother cursed Sorcha and her brothers and turned her brothers into swans. Now Sorcha must leave home to try and lift the curse. There is a catch; however, she cannot speak a word for fear that her brothers will be cursed forever.
As far as the plot itself, this story is an epic quest. Sorcha pours out her soul, working relentlessly to try and save her brothers. Even putting her own health and well being aside to save them. Along her journey, she meets a kind stranger who takes her under his wing, and he tries to help her.
As mentioned above, this story does contain the trigger warnings listed. The author did show throughout the book the long term psychological damage that this act has on the character. There is also an animal death, which was very upsetting to read. That being said, this is one of the best-written books that I have read in a very long time. The characters were fully developed and felt like real people. This book is not for everyone. However, if this book did not contain those scenes mentioned, I would have given this book 5 stars.

This novella tells the story of a group of bandits who come together, and they may find a family with each other. I appreciated that in this novella that every single word that the author wrote counts and contributed to the story. This novella is full of beautiful descriptions that I enjoyed reading. I loved the diversity and the LGBTQ+ representation that it has. It honestly made my heart so happy to read this story. It was a beautiful story of learning about characters and who they are and how they accept themselves and each other. My favorite character has to be Guet Imm. She is so awesome and powerful. She is tough and didn’t put up with the other men in the group. This was an excellent story that I couldn’t put down. I highly recommend everyone give this story a read. It was a fun read.
