This was a great Who done it mystery. This is the second Dismas Hardy book I’ve read. (I started out of order) The characters were real, and I just felt for Hardy and his ex wife. I like Hardy’s character, he’s a guy who wanted to find out who killed his friend. This book kept me guessing and I only caught on toward the end who the murderer was. The ending to this book was perfect. Great mystery, highly recommend.

I thought this book was an enjoyable read. I followed the paths of Charlie and Eve and how both wars affected these women. Eve was a spy in the Great War, she is a strong woman who put on act to find out the secrets of the Germans to pass along to her side. We also learned about Lili, who was ‘Alice’, ‘The Queen of Spies’ and how these women put country first to do whatever they could to stop the Nazi’s. Charlie crossed pathes with Eve after the war and she wants Eve’s help to track down what happened to her cousin Rose. This book is a deep experience. Yes, parts of it reflect the horrific side of spying on the enemy, the torture that these women endured to find out secrets from the enemy. In the case of Eve she had to sleep with a man who ran a resturant frequented by Nazi’s to find out and discover their secrets. If you like history and a bit of mystery I reccomend this book. It was a very good read.

This was such a great read. Lowell is witty, the characters are quirky and the mystery of the Brontes intereoven in the story was delightful. This book made me smile.
