‘Life,’ Garp wrote, ‘is sadly not structured like a good old-fashioned novel. Instead, an ending occurs when those who are meant to peter out have petered out. All that’s left is memory. But even a nihilist has a memory.’

It is not they who bring the reckoning Ravyn. It is you. It is us.
I really wanted to like this, especially since I bought it in Athens and the employee at the bookstore sold it so well to me. Unfortunately, the writing is incredibly bland and due to its length reading this feels like a chore. With great sadness I say no more.

Then, just as happens on a terrace in the moonlight, when one person begins to feel ashamed that he is already bored, and as yet the sits silent, very quiet, sadly looking at the moon, does not like to speak, moves his foot, clears his throat, notices some iron scroll on a table leg, stirs a leaf, but says nothing- so Peter Walsh did now.
Going to pick this up an start from the beginning after finishing Mrs Dalloway since they feel similar but this one just being a bit harder to read

The tears of the world are a constant quantity. For each one who begins to weep somewhere else another stops. The same is true of the laugh. Let us not then speak ill of our generation, it is not any unhappier than its predecessors. Let us not speak well of it either. Let us not speak of it at all.

Why should a dog, a horse, a rat have life,
And thou no breath at all? Thou’lt come no more,
Never, never, never, never, never!
