I'm slowly discovering that narrative non-fiction is not my favourite genre. Nothing against the book itself, as I understand that it takes a lot to build the contextual history of the topic, but I came to this hoping to learn about African American women's role in the Apollo space missions and felt that it made up a very small portion of the story and that those details were glossed over.

I really enjoyed that the pacing of the book matched Adam's relationship with his life in the 3 sections of the book. Part 1 was slow paced and matched the tedium of golf that he felt with his entire being, whereas Part 3 was significantly faster paced and enjoyable. The intrigue of the introduction helped propel me through the Part 1 and then I felt that the story soared.
I also loved the growth that Adam went through over the course of the narrative. I thought he was quite obnoxious in the beginning of the book (unsurprising of a 17 year old boy), but his characterization was well developed by the conclusion.
I can't say I've ever felt such severe secondhand embarrassment in my life, so bravo to the interview scene preceding the Dubai incident.
Overall, this was an excellent read.
