The Epilogue for this was so sad :(

This was pretty fun. X-Men: Season One is a modern retelling of the first year of the original Uncanny X-Men comics. This was narrated by Jean Grey, who—as I’ve said before—is one of my favorite characters in ever. She’s a very animated narrator, and she tells the stories of the other characters well. I enjoyed the art a lot. It was very cartoony, but it worked well for the story being told the way it was. Oh and I hate comic Charles Xavier. I love X-men Fox-verse Charles in both the old and new timeline movies. But every X-Men comic I’ve read, he sucks in. It was interesting to see Jean & Hank call him out on his bullshit.

There was another story at the end, which was the first issue of Uncanny X-Men 2011 or 2012 I believe? Not entirely sure, but it was just ok. I only enjoyed Emma and Magik’s page time if I’m being honest.

Anyways, Dilfneto solos as always, and Jean as well. This was a good introduction to the original X-Men if you’re looking for a place to start.

I’m pretty sure the CA: Winter Soldier movie is loosely based off this run, and I had a really fun time reading the original source material. I really liked the issue we got on Bucky’s backstory as the Winter Soldier. I think that was my favorite part of this section in the story. Overall I really enjoyed this

This was such a good mystery and story as a whole. I loved every second of this, and this is one of my favorite batman stories I’ve ever consumed. I’m still disappointed this doesn’t take place over one Halloween though, which was what I was expecting from this going in. But despite that, I really really enjoyed this story.

I think I’m the strong outlier here, but I didn’t really like this story. It honestly just felt like a copy-paste of the Long Halloween and without the good BatCat content. I hate the art in both Long Halloween and here, so that didn’t enhance my enjoyment either. The most redeeeming thing about Batman: Dark Victory is the introduction to my favorite bat kid, Dick Grayson/Robin.

This was fine. I didn’t really find that many stories too interesting or entertaining. I’m not a huge fan of Detective Comics. But I love Talia Al Ghul, and the way Bruce x Talia was written before Gr*nt Morrison started writing them is so well done. Ra’s Al Ghul is also, probably, my favorite *comic* Batman villain (I’d say live action wise, it’d be 2022 Riddler), so seeing his and Talia’s early stories and introduction was really fun. The last few stories were good as well as the first few. Everything else was just above mediocre. Not bad, but not great either. Still an enjoyable reading experience overall. I love reading old DC stuff, it’s so much better than old Marvel.

I really really loved both of these stories. It was a breath of fresh air to read a Robin: Year One story arc without the usual take on Dick’s first year as Robin. The story was intriguing, and the narration by Alfred was an interesting choice. It gave Dick’s story more value, and emotion. I got a little teary eyed by Alfred’s journal entries especially the ones comparing Dick and Bruce. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. 4/5 stars.

Moving on to Batgirl: Year One, I absolutely adored this story. I’m going to admit I don’t know much about Barbara Gordon besides the basics of her character (and her relationships with both Dick & Bruce

I honestly have next to nothing to say about this story, and I knew it would be like this after only reading one issue. I didn’t feel positively or negatively about it, it was just…there??? Fine? Ok? I definitely know I won’t think about this too often or recommend Fear Itself, but I also don’t shy people away from it. So idk. It was a mediocre story with some nice art, a semi-forgettable plot, and little character development.

Very unnecessary, but it’s Black Widow so?

DNF

I’m never finishing this, let’s be realistic
