OMG THIS WAS LITERALLY SO FUCKING GOOD!!?? I got this on stuff your kindle day after it'd been on my casual TBR for awhile, and when I felt myself getting into a reading slump today, I knew I had to pull out a billionare romnce. This was absolutely the perfect pick. The amount of chemistry and tension the two MC's had was literally off the charts. The banter was just incredibe. I loved the way this story was told, from the beginning of the herione working for the hero, down to when she turned in her two weeks notice. I also just loved how the hero grew to love and appreciate the herione, and started doing these sweet, nice things for her. The second act plot twist was so fucking good (although I did guess it), and the third act (which does include a breakup) was surprisingly one of the best parts of the book. i thought it very realistic and really worked. I adored this book sm, my only complaint was that I wish it was longer!!

I didn't plan on becoming a billionare romance girlie in the great year of 2024, but here we are as my trash self once again gives one 5 stars :)

DNF @ 50%
I simply can’t do this anymore. Not only is the writing reminding me of wattpad, but the hero is so fucking annoying and alpha, and the heroine is a complete doormat. Wouldn’t recommend

Normally I’d give books more of a chance than what I gave this one, but I’m really not comfortable reading about explicit rape scenes. I’ve also heard this has really really dubious consent/borderline rape and I’m sorry I just don’t want to read that. It makes me feel bad mentally and v uncomfortable sorry

This was really cute! I really liked the hero and the heroine, and I thought their connection was very meaningful. I love how the FMC completely melted the MMC’s gruff exterior, and only put up with her sunshiney personality. I also loved the scene where the MMC’s cat who hates everyone snuggled right up to the FMC, that was one of my favorite scenes in here.
In terms of plot, this book also had a lot of side plots, some I cared about, and some I didn’t which I think was one of my “issues” with the book. I also hated the audiobook narrator for this. The way this narrator kept pronouncing schedule as SHED-ULE made me so mad. The British accent made this so hard to play on 2x speed

Apparently this is a Taylor Swift x Travis Kelsey “inspired” story…so I will not be reading xx

I’m really pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this book. I really wasn’t feeling it in the first 10% and I feared I’d have to DNF pretty early on. But I really ended up loving Last Light. This book definitely gave me the vibes of The Last of Us (more so the show than the game imo) and some hints of The Walking Dead but without any of the zombies. The MMC reminded me a less gruff version of Joel from TLOU, and I have a feeling Travis was definitely based off of him.
I enjoyed these two characters a lot, and just seeing their day-to-day life. The monotonous, slice-of-life actions of living through the apocalypse was probably my favorite part of this story. I ended up loving the romance between the MC’s, who were so well fit for each other. The MMC turned out to be so sweet to the heroine, and I ended up loving all their interactions. The steam between these two was also super well written. And surprisingly, I did enjoy the writing style in this book. I was kind of scared I wouldn’t since a lot of the reviews were complaining about the “bad writing”, and I really don’t think Claire Kent’s writing was bad at all. It was very simple and one sentencey, but it worked quite well for the one person POV the author went with.
I think my main and only big complaint with this book which is causing me to knock off half a star, is the miscommunication trope. This does have a little third act miscommunication/break up that just could have been avoided had either the FMC or MMC opened their mouths and just communicated! It was deeply annoying and made me skim (which I hadn’t done at all in the earlier parts of the book). But overall, this was a very beautiful and romantic book. I feel like if you enjoy really deep, emotional romances or post apocalyptic stories, this one will definitely be for you. I’m really excited to try more in this series from Claire Kent!

Should have left this one as a DNF unfortunately…I got 60% through this before I started skimming (I had to get to the spice, ya know?). These characters had absolutely no chemistry, and nothing about them was compelling to me. This book features a plethora of hard triggers, and when the book reveals why all these characters went through this fucked up shit, I just didn’t feel like me forcing myself to read through the literal rape and child molestation was worth it. Idk just wasn’t for me.
I think one of my points in my OG review still stands. Keri Lake has some really stunning atmospheric writing and I would really like to try more from her.
