”’Baby, I could watch you watching paint dry, and I still wouldn’t be bored.’ Garrett Graham, my own personal sweet-talker.”

I literally loved Garrett and Hannah so much. They were absolutely fucking adorable, and the way they loved each other just made me so incredibly happy. This story was really fun, and despite this being a lot like other college romances I’ve read, I feel like it sticks out because of how much you could tell Garrett and Hannah love each other. Literally could not put put this down.

So even though I didn’t like this book, the movie on Amazon Prime was literally so fucking cute! I loved the actors they chose, and I thought their chemistry was very believable. This movie also had one of the best sex scenes I’ve ever seen. Highly recommend, just a really cute, queer romcom.

This just wasn’t my cup of tea, personally. This book felt like sitting down with a Potterhead, Disney adult millennial and I hated every second of it. Disappointed because I really wanted to love this /:

I remember when this book was very hyped on Booktok, and I immediately went out and bought myself a copy. I was really excited to read this story, mainly because I was told it was set in an Ancient Arabian inspired fantasy world. But then I let it sit and collect dust for at least 4 years. However, I was cleaning my shelves the other day, looking for some books to unhaul, when I saw We Hunt the Flame sitting there in its dusty, hardbacked glory. Out of renewed curiosity, I looked at the more recent reviews on Goodreads to determine if I’d finally read We Hunt the Flame, and I got excited to read it all over again.
After finishing it, I think this story did a lot of things well. The writing and prose was very clean I think is the right word. Very pretty, but not overly so. The world and its building was good, very YA in its simplicity, but original nonetheless. The characters were enjoyable to follow, especially our to MC’s: Zafira, a Katniss Everdeen, Robin Hood copy, and Nasir, a depressed, sad boi edgelord. The romance was also compelling, with said Katniss Everdeen cutout knocking some sense into her edgelord boyfriend.
I just think my main issue with We Hunt the Flame was the pacing. This story is very very slow starting out, and takes almost 200 pages to really pick-up. The beginning is really getting to know our MC’s and this world, which was fine, but wasn’t particularly interesting for me as the reader. However with me saying this, I still think those 200 pages were important to the story, no matter how slow. It just took me awhile to get through, hence the “lower” rating.
Despite the pacing issues, I still thought this was a really fun, unique, and well written YA fantasy. If I read this when I bought it, I’d have probably rated it higher (as I’m getting older, I think I’m kind of outgrowing the YA fantasy genre, unfortunately). Once you get past those first 200 pages, the story really becomes worth the experience. I’m also really intrigued to read book 2 because of that ending!

You honestly can’t convince me I didn’t just read about literal soulmates. This is probably one of my new favorite romance books of all time! Not only is Emily Henry’s prose so engaging, but the way she writes her characters and relationships has me hooked the entire time.
People We Meet on Vacation is a summery angsty second chance romance between two ex best friends, Poppy and Alex. Poppy and Alex had been taking vacations together every year, until their friendship fell apart along with their vacations. Poppy misses Alex deeply and convinces him to take another vacation after a few years of silence so they can repair their relationship. But as their vacation goes on, their past clouds their future. We slowly start to figure out what really ended Poppy and Alex’s relationship years ago, and how the past will influence their futures.
Everything about this book was perfection. The incoordination of flashbacks and the present really set the overall tone of the story, and instantly had me intrigued. Both Poppy and Alex were also such compelling characters to read about, both on their own and together. You could also see how these two really loved each other, from the beginning of their relationship, right to the new beginning of it. They were so sweet, and the flashbacks really enhanced my love for these two.
This audiobook was also perfect! I’ve listened to so many audiobooks by this narrator (Julia Wayland) now, and I’ve loved everything she’s done. I really adored this book, and I will be thinking about Poppy and Alex forever.

I’m 6 pages in, and I can already tell this is going to be so good. Their banter >>>
