"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it has to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived...I wanted to live deep and and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life..." (Henry David Thoreau)
I first watched this movie in November of 2021. It broke my heart. It made me weep. It made me remember what is truly important in this life. It made me want to "live deliberately" and "live deep." I wanted to read more poetry. This book was exactly like the movie. It made me feel all the same things. Neil, Todd, Charlie, Knox, Meeks, Pitts, and Keating will always hold a special place in my heart. This story will stay with me for the rest of my life. I will never forget the lessons Mr. Keating taught, the lessons Neil and Todd unknowingly taught. I will never forget.
"Keating stood at the door, overcome with emotions. 'Thank you boys,' he said. 'I...thank you.' Keating looked into Todd's eyes, then into the eyes of all the Dead Poets. He nodded, then turned and walked out the door, leaving them standing on their desks in silent salute."

Is it hot in here???? Jeez. I loved this one. Short and sweet and exactly what I needed. Only this really doesn't help my extremely high standards and my hopeless romantic soul. But still, ya know, good book.
Okay listen, this was good. I keep reading reviews of this saying it's insta love and yes it was. But what were you expecting with a 100 page novella? I'm pretty sure that was the whole point of these. They're quick, easy, and cute. I really appreciated and enjoyed this book for what it was. Don't read this if you don't want something fast paced where the characters fall in love quickly. This will not be the book for you. Anyway, I really liked it and am now eager to read the other ones.
I didn't enjoy reading this. Walls' story made me feel sick and angry most of the book. I found myself reading it just to get through it and finally be done. Obviously, I greatly respect Walls for being able to tell her story and I am glad she has a better life now. She is a very skilled writer. But I just didn't enjoy the reading experience.
I never read this as a kid and I'm glad I didn't. It would have broken me. I absolutely loved this book. I loved Jesse and Leslie and their vivid imaginations and love of life. I loved how they made each other feel loved and accepted and like they had a place in this world. This story is so special and I'm glad I read it, even though I'm about 10 years too late.
i thought it was good. it took me a while to read it even tho it's so short...i just got bored and kept falling asleep while reading this. i'm not wowed but it's a solid piece of work.
"Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten." (G.K. Chesterton)
This is such an important book to me. Coraline shows us that ordinary girls can defeat monsters and face their fears. There's nothing particularly special about Coraline right? We probably feel that way about ourselves, too. Well even the most seemingly ordinary people can do great things. Coraline is a fantastic role model for young girls and even grown women, I think. Do yourself a favor and read this book, you won't regret it.
"'Because,' she said, 'when you're scared but you still do it anyway, that's brave.'"

anyway, here are some quotes i liked:
"People are full of surprises even for themselves."
"'There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain.'"
"What a long way, I thought, I've come--to be destroyed."
"'Maybe everything bad that happens to you makes you weaker,' said Giovanni, as though he had not heard me, 'and so you can stand less and less.'"
"'I don't see what's so hard about being a woman. At least not as long as she's got a man.'
'That's just it,' said she. 'Hasn't it ever struck you that that's a sort of humiliating necessity?'"
"'It is cruel to have made me want to live only to make my death more bloody.'"
"He could, indeed, have done with Guillaume anything at all--but he could not do anything about being Giovanni."
