Popcorn Thriller. Some divided opinions in book club but I thought it was hilarious & a fun read. B movie slasher plot & neckbeard stereotypes abound.
This was so good! the setting (1920s, Washington DC’s Black Broadway), the worldbuilding (spirits, enigmas, destiny), the language (zombies are “the reinvigorated”, the possessed are “the embraced”), & the characters (many based on true stories equally captivating) made for a wholly unique story.
I would try another Coates… but this was like a cross between Simone St James & a Goosebumps book.
Daniel, broke & looking for work is staying with his shithead drunkard cousin Kyle while he gets on his feet & gets an unlikely job offer at Craven Manor. An abandoned estate.
Poor people being stuck in the worst situations is all too relatable, BUT the plot is preposterous, the MCs are 1D & the decisions that they make are just unfathomable.
I usually hate classics but this is a timeless story of a woman who is so bored with her life, society & her drunken bore of a husband that she runs away from home and becomes a “cabin boy” on a pirate ship
A quick and intense read. Excellent character study.
The story of a travel blogger on his last known adventure in India. In an area that is infamous for tourists gone missing. Discusses “India-syndrome”, his younger life and other adventures. I know deep down if I met this guy while traveling I would think he was insufferable, but the impact of the unsolved disappearance on his family & the suspicious nature were very interesting.
Very quick and intense read. The character studies are fantastic.
