Me at the end of Volume 3: Is Aiden actually my favorite character?

Me at the end of Volume 1: Aiden is such a dick

Me at the end of Volume 2: Aiden is such a dick (affectionate)

Okay I see a vision forming....

I never know how to rate the books in this series because-
On one hand: Plot? Absurd. The holiday families are so silly to me.
On the other hand: I loved it. These characters are angst city and I'm obsessed with the antagonistic banter between them.

My boy Kris needed this. And by "this" I mean a tall, hot, bossy Irishman with a heart of gold and a penchant for calling him "good boy."🙂‍↕️🩷

The audiobook was a delight. Dylan Reilly Fitzpatrick voice-acted his ass off. I giggled. I cried. I blushed. Mans got range.

lighthearted

Here's the thing: This book will, without a doubt, find its intended audience and do very well within that readership. Unfortunately, I just don't fall into that category.

Fallon's prose is lovely and the world she's built is very interesting. A lot of what I didn't enjoy might just boil down to my own preferences when it comes to the genre.

My biggest issue is that there seems to be so much potential for this world and these characters. Like, addressing the dissonance between the nobility and the working class and their opposing beliefs around monogamy vs pack dynamics is such a COOL concept?? But unfortunately there just wasn't enough interesting conflict about that- all of that external political conflict was resolved way too quickly and easily for me. (Maybe it'll improve with the continuation of the series though.)

In regards to the conversation around pack dynamics- I was really disappointed to find a lack of variety within this particular group relationship and the book as a whole. The author does a wonderful job of breaking down omegaverse for new readers- including going into the differences between alphas, omegas, and betas- but never once was a beta character mentioned (like not even on the periphery). And I think not including betas into the storyline really did this pack and this world a disservice. Three male alpha friends who decided they'd be a pack and one omega who just happens to be a scent match for ALL of them? Eh. The relationship dynamics could have been SO much more interesting. (Oran should have been a Beta imo and you can't change my mind about it).

So, if you're coming into this with a solid foundation and looking for a nuanced omegaverse romance? It may fall a little flat.

If you're here because you're looking for a spicy Why Choose Romantasy (that just so happens to be in an omegaverse world) with lovely writing and an interesting set up? You'll probably have a great time.

I think the author is laying the groundwork for some interesting storylines in the future and I will definitely be interested in giving the series another try.

*Thank you to the author and Good Girls PR for an advanced copy*

I loved all of these characters SO much! Such a sweet hockey family 🥹 I can't wait to see what's in store for book 2

Sign me the fuck up for whatever this series is 💳💥

I just love sad hockey gays being emotionally reckless, okay?

Like, do you ever just look at the decisions characters are making and want to say, "God, you stupid idiots, just say the thing!!!" while also finding the silent yearning and self denial absolutely delicious?

That's me with these guys.

I'm bummed that this series doesn't look like it'll continue (seeing as this was written in 2021).
